It's in a seperate tank for right now to see if it will live or not. It is no longer tainting my good tank.
If there was no light acclimation, a leather would get fairly irritated. Too little flow... Possible.
Freshwater dips normally do not have a lasting effect on corals or live rock, but I guess it's possible.

Re: My 46 Gallon Oceanic Bowfront

It's been a while...

Sad news.

Our Powder Brown Tang is dead. The new powerhead sucked her to the side. I didn't see her much today and just now at feeding time I new something was wrong. I moved the powerhead to adjust flow to blow her out of the back and when I grabbed it I felt what I knew was going to be her. Turn off the powerhead and she falls to the bottom dead. She must have been there all day.

It was a Korallia 4, for those interested.

I'm pretty sad... That was my favorite fish.

Re: My 46 Gallon Oceanic Bowfront

Man, it's been forever. Just moved. Everything made it. Everything that was still alive I should say. That Toadstool murdered everything. Only survivers are the two clowns and a VERY tiny green stripe mushroom and one of the rics. I cannot believe anything made it, but then I spotted that little And I mean TINY green stripe and then found a ricordia.

I am so poor right now I have no money to do anything. I am so sad about everything dying. I want to restock, but that won't happen. I just have to move again in a year and a half. I barely moved everything this time!

Re: My 46 Gallon Oceanic Bowfront

So cyano is back. Again totally my fault. Started using tap water for water topoff and changes. So, I went on a shopping spree.

Got a RO system so I can't get lazy anymore.
Also got a pump and overflow to start my sump finally. I plan on throwing in a TON of algae for the time being and then eventually a copepod fantasy land.

I killed 4 of the 6 T5 bulbs to lessen the cyano growth. and I also aimed the powerhead directly at it's main area. I am going to try to combat it with just some water changes, but if all else fails I still have some chemiclean.

Re: My 46 Gallon Oceanic Bowfront

Wow sucks to hear about the tang. Start fresh and do not use tap please!

I heard when setting up a tank the first time it is fine to use tap for the cycling process. For a month I will be doing water changes and finally should have a nice balanced system.

YOU ARE SCARRING ME LIKE HELL! I have the same power head.....I am afraid to get fish now!

Good luck!

P.S. GET MORE LR!!! LOL

Well, the fish was killed by the stupid toadstool, so don't worry about your powerhead.

And as far as live rock, I have plenty for my pitiful bioload!

Well, ALL tanks look like that in the beginning. This is just a NEW beginning! Just be patient and always use the RO/DI water. Let the cyano run it's course, it will go away soon enough.

Re: My 46 Gallon Oceanic Bowfront

Ordered an overflow, pump and RO unit earlier this week. Hope to get the tank to better health.

Well, got my pump today. Smaller than I thought. Put it in the DT and it REALLY blew everything around. Incredible, but that's what 1300 GPH will do out of a small outlet. Started planning my sump setup.

Stuck going with a 10 gallon sump/fuge since bigger won't fit. But, I think I can make do. I figured out a way to still get 5+ gallons in there for the fuge itself. A lot of people seem to not even be able to get that much with a 29 gallon!

Can't wait for the Ro unit. I can't stand trying to find a place to get pure water. Seems like purified water isn't so purified these days. Plus lugging 5 gallon jugs around in a Trans Am is not easy.

I have no idea where to hook it up to though... that's my biggest concern. This is a rented house so no permanent setups, plus I'm only here for another 15 months or so...

Ah, the joys of reefkeeping. I use the term "reef" VERY loosely in my situation.

For my records: Build me a refuge/sump!

Overflow got here today. VERY nice looking. Eshopps 800 GPH. I'm impressed with it's quality for so cheap.

I'm pretty sure the one I bought came with one. I just don't like the idea of screwing it on and off when in/out of use.
