You're gonna have to get rid of that tang when it gets bigger. PS everyone around here is gonna tell you that... BUT it is VERY beautiful, and I can't wait to see the toadstool open!

Re: My 46 Gallon Oceanic Bowfront

Thanks! and I know about the tang. I figure by that time I'll have upgraded AGAIN anyway. It is a cool looking fish though.

I'm hoping my clowns like the toadstool enough to host it. I might have to pull out their current home (the powerhead) and put in my other powerhead.

Re: My 46 Gallon Oceanic Bowfront

PROBLEM maybe. The toadstool STILL isn't opening up. It's been 3 or so days and it's looking like it wants to tip over. Water is perfect, with nitrates at 10 and calcium at 560. Everything else is where it should be.

Should I kill the lights for a couple days?????

Re: My 46 Gallon Oceanic Bowfront

I wouldn't kill the lights. Perhaps prop it up against something. Sometimes corals get stressed after a move and they can really pout. That calcium is high though. Do you have test for alk and mag? You may be out of balance.

Re: My 46 Gallon Oceanic Bowfront

Don't panic on the toadstool!

Mine once did this...

and worse for over two weeks.

Apparently they go through some pretty lengthy "cycles"
of shedding mucus, etc.
Give it some time and I bet it will be fine.

Re: My 46 Gallon Oceanic Bowfront

I've also found that once they "cycle" like that, they
seem to have grown when they "reinflate"

This is not a current pic, it has probably grown by another 1/4 since this
pic.

Re: My 46 Gallon Oceanic Bowfront

I would give it time. Make sure there is some flow going over it but not blasting it. This helps remove the mucus coating they get,
My toadstool is new and hasn't done this yet but all of my leathers pout occasionally for days at a time, particulalry when they are new.

It looks like it's rotting. Like a dried up apple almost. I can't get a powerhead close enough either.

What is your lighting again? I don't know if it's just the picture, but it looks kinda sickly and weak.

6 bulb T5s. Not what I would consider weak! Those are camera phone pics.

Re: My 46 Gallon Oceanic Bowfront

I only have 3 ideas for why it did what it did.

1. too much lighting all at once (6x39 watt T5s)
2. too little flow
3. Freshwater dip.

Either way, when I get another, I'll do none of these.

It's in a seperate tank for right now to see if it will live or not. It is no longer tainting my good tank.
