Re: Frankie's 120gal. glass experiment

Wow, i just went back to my first page and read the build of this tank. I made some serious changes in my original plans it seems. Funny how thing's never go the way you think they will. Your right brikeibur, It has been a journey!

Re: Frankie's 120gal. glass experiment

I am replacing the lighting with 14k's MH instead of the 10k. Time for a change in the lighting. Everything has been going smooth and the corals are growing nicely since i fixed my ca++ troubles but some are looking a bit bleached. I didn't think it was the lighting and addressed everything else but there just not coloring up.
I will be removing some rock after i get the nano built and rescaping the tank. I am glad i bought so much rock when i set this tank up. There is plenty now for the nano and i will minimize the cycle on the nano. Can you tell i am excited about a nano?!
Mike put up some awesome tank shots from japan a few weeks ago and i cannot get the scaping out of my head. So thats the look i am going to go for when i get some rock out. Look like it will be a fun fall!

Re: Frankie's 120gal. glass experiment

I have XM's at the moment and i am not happy with them. I am going back to what i use to use. Ushio. They were the best i ever used. I want to try reeflux but am afraid of change atm and want what i know to be good. I tried to get them when i switched to XM's but Ushio changed the bulb and they wouldn't work on my ballast. But i have found the ones i had before that they don't make anymore! So i will use these for 8 months and then upgrade to 250w with a new ballast.

Re: Frankie's 120gal. glass experiment

Well it turned out that the bulb was not the one i wanted. The picture on the box is different from what the bulb really looks like.
I think i am just going to cave in and upgrade to 250w with the dimming ballasts. Also this Serra salt i have been useing sux. Nothing is consistent about it and my corals look terrible. I am going back to what i used in the past, TMP. Heres the link to the retro kit i am going to order up.

Re: Frankie's 120gal. glass experiment

I really like the look of 14ks. That is what I will be running on my tank 2 400w and 2 250w.

Those dimmable ballasts sound pretty cool, where are you going to get them?
