Hey Jack that's a SWEET looking Garage you're building there. That will more than hold up your big Diesel truck

Seriously it looks good buddy. Wish I was closer I'd be there to help. I make a GREAT supervisor. I'm trained perfectly for a STATE job

Can't wait to see it progress.

Re: Vicki's Melding of Art & Science

Jack, when I mix fence post concrete I just mix it IN the hole. Pour the dry mix in ( have 2 people help) person #2 wets the mix and person #3 uses a stick to make sure there are no AIR pockets in the mix (causes weakness in mix) and so on. This way you can do many holes in a short period of time in an assembly line fashion. I've done MANY fence posts and deck posts like this.

Re: Vicki's Melding of Art & Science

Actually BigAl you don't need to mix it at all. The best way I have found for post support is to just dump the cement mix into the hole dry and let the ground moisture do the soaking. This will create the hardest block also. It is a slow process, maybe two days at most and only good out doors unless you live in the low country like me.

Re: Vicki's Melding of Art & Science

We've done that method too Frank. It works great if you aren't going to be "doing" anything with the post for a few days and that's how we always do mailboxes etc. But for fence posts and deck posts we usually need/want to do something with it within 24hrs that's when we do the "Assembly Line" method mentioned above and add water. I just HATE mixing it in a bucket/barrel/wheel barrow and then trying to maneuver it into a hole. We just dump, pour, agitate and go to the next.

Re: Vicki's Melding of Art & Science

My favorite method is to have someone else do it

Today I am going to cut the flooring, & prepar for the floor drain just incase of a incedent.

I do however would like some input. Should I use 2 layers plastic under my floor & insulate between them & vent or do you think that could be a potential problem & just leave it open. Remember the sump will sit directly on the floor in the room.

Re: Vicki's Melding of Art & Science

Jack that's entirely up to you. Around here you can't double like that (potential for inadequate ventilation leading to mold issues) but I have heard of others doing that. I like the idea of it being insulated personally. If it's going to be exposed long term maybe you can look into a rigid foam insulation. It's like the blue or Pink foam you see at HD or Lowes but it can be had in much thicker sheets than that and for less money than just stacking a buch of sheets together. Here in the mountains we are required to have foam sheathing even under the slab so we have to be "creative" at times like this.

Re: Vicki's Melding of Art & Science

I will see what Vicki thinks maybe just 2 layers of plastic then if moisture does build up I can vent it.

Well today I cut the flooring here are a few pictures of it

Re: Vicki's Melding of Art & Science

That really IS looking good Jack!

Hey since you're in the "Decking/Framing" mode wanna come over Saturday and help us build a new deck? Landlord decided we did so good as a "Team" last weekend we are gonna remove the decking boards on the existing 6'x12' deck, add another 8'x12' section and re-deck it all. Your superb skills will be needed

You know it really DOES look like you could park your TRUCK on it! Now we gotta get that floor insulated.
