Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

Now I have all the parts for the return except the actual pipe.

Here's what I am thinking for return. I will have the pipe come up out of the bulkhead (with appropriate adapters etc) into a 90 and then a short piece of pipe to get it out over the over flow wall and then maybe either a 90 to shoot the flow across the back wall or 45 across the tank to the opposite corner. The over flow is along the left side of the back wall (slightly off center to the left from the front of the tank) and this would direct the current towards the right front corner of the tank. What do you think? Is this needed? I'm afraid if I don't direct the flow away I wont get as much "Real" turnover in the tank as the water leaving the output can easily just get into the return flow and go right back into the sump/fuge system instead of really "turning" the tank over.

Am I just being anal now or is this a just concern?

Did I mention I hate plumbing for this reason - even with the OD measurements if the thickness of the pipe is different some fittings dont work. Grrrrr.

Plumbing isn't and has never been "logical" to me. But then again some people don't understand why a 2x4 isn't 2" x 4" . I guess it's all relevant.

Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

What I would do is use Loc-line for the return, that way you can direct anywhere you want it in the tank.

Loc-Line

Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

That's a good idea. I need to look into getting some loc-line fittings and stuff. I wonder if I can buy that locally anywhere?

Thanks Robert

My LFS doesn't carry anything that doesn't turn around in less than 1 week. He carries only the bare minimum of anything to do with SW. I'm off to Ebay ...

Amen! But living way up in the mountains of Western North Carolina we don't have a LOT of options. I can travel out of town and be in some very nice FS in an hour or so but who has the time to run all over the world for piece parts. I know there was another reefer locally who approached me about starting a REAL LFS here but I have a great job ( I mean I'm AT work right now) and don't want to make any life changes any time soon.

Nice chronicle Allen. The stand design looks great! Nice stool too... I need to get one since I use a kitchen chair! Sometimes I use three so I can walk around the tank.. LOL~ Usually when doing my monthly aquascaping

Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

Thanks Doni Yeah I took the price of the step ladder OFF the tank budget because I had to use it over the weekend to replace a ceiling fan.

I hope to hear something from the cabinet maker in the next couple of days. I'm anxious to see some updates pics of it. I may call him now and ask him to take some pics tonight.

Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

I just spoke with my cabinet maker and some of the custom wood just came in yesterday for parts of it. He said he'll take some pics hopefully tonight and maybe by next week we can have it done and IN the house. SWEET

Jack what's that hole in the side of the "T" for?

Also I am sitting here in the office looking at the bulkheads and I don't think my question matters but just in case....

That bulkhead obviously have a inside and outside. One will result in a "nipple" on the inside of the tank (bottom of the over flow) and one that will produce a "nipple" outside of the tank pointing down into the cabinet. Both ends are threaded to accept the adapters needed but does it matter which one goes where?

You want the flat end of the bulkhead inside the tank.

The rubber gasket will go on the inside and the nut on the outside.
