Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

3/4" inlet/outlet. I would jump your plumbing up to 1" so get the appropriate adapters to do that with.

Can I also suggest a 3/4" elbow on the intake side pointed down. This will do 2 things for you

1) it will help reduce micro bubbles from not allowing your pump to draw off the surface and possibly draw in air.

2) it will give you more room for error when it comes top off and water changes as the pump will be drawing off the bottom of the sump.

Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

Good info Matt. So you mean to run a 3/4" on the actual INTAKE of the pump itself pointing down? That makes sense.

I'm STOKED about doing this. It's all I can do to STAY at work

Tonight I will get the components for the pump, start cutting & gluing PVC all the while helping my wife set-up her new 6g NanoCube. I'll sleep ANOTHER time I've been resting for MONTHS waiting for this one

Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

It comes with a nice snail grate for the intake. My 36 would not like a 90 on the intake side. It cause instant cavitation. consider trying it with & without. Also be gentle with the coverplate (volute) while connecting the plumbing. imo they are flimsy & easy to throw the impeller out of balance unless it's all lined up.

Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

Went to Lowe's and picked up the misc parts to get this Pump set up. Here's what I did...

#1 On he intake side of the pump I added a 90deg elbow pointing down to pull lower in the water column

#2 Added make threaded adaptor(s) to get it to 1" instead of 3/4"

#3 Added a "barbed" fitting so I can use "Flexible" tubing from pump to bulkhead going up into tank

That's as far as I got last night but it IS progress. Also work with my wife on her Aquascaping in her new 6g NanoCube. Got the rocks "pegged & glued". Tonight make up the SW, add sand and start the CYCLE!!

Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

Al, do you have a plastic clamp for your barbed fitting? I used pvc to get mine well above the water line before clamping on with flex tubing so I could use a SS clamp.

Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

Great idea Mark. The way it's "configured" I have to use a "plug" I think he called it...basically it's a short piece of 1" tubing in between two different adapters that are both FEMALE so the "slip or plug" is the MALE aspect of the configuration. I can make this slip anywhere from "hidden" between the two females *Grins* up to 3' out of the sump. That's what I'll probably do is RAISE the barb out of the water and use the Stainless clamp I have in hand. Thanks for the advice. Good idea.

Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

I took a pic last night of the pump in the floor but that wasn't "Post Worthy". Hopefully over the course of the next 72 hours there will be a HUGE change in the "% of H2O" in the tank *S*
