Mel you don't have to worry about answering my questions.. just knowing you're reading along makes ALL the difference to Me.. I mean heck I have My own personal Stalker... how freaking COOL is that?

I'll check today to see what kind of foam padding we have here at work. We sell that "floating floor" so I may have some of that in stock. Otherwise I'll come up with some just to add some "soft" between the tank and stand. I am so excited I could just about pee right here at my desk

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

My family business is floor covering. There is padding for laminate floors called floor muffler. It is green, very thin, but has incredible crush resistance.

What type of store do you work at?

Doesn't the glass manufacturer you purchased the tank from 'require' a foam pad underneath it to validate the warranty?
YEs Glasscages stated they will only warranty it against breakage IF there is indeed a foam cushion under it but the warranty is only for 90days from day of delivery and it may not have water in it in that time frame *points to the SLOW part of my build and grumbles*. I just can't see putting 3/4" or 1" foam under it... It just seems bad to do that due to the crushing of foam. So I'll be shooting for an underlayment type of product like Micheal is talking about.

I work for a Building Supply Company.

Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

Floor Muffler is only 1/8th of an inch thick. But we sell more of this padding, than any other laminate underlayment. the 1/4 and 1/2 inch pads would just crush under the weight of the tank. Its not about thickness, but support.

Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

Ok I have the glass C. making my cubular (my new word for the day) refugium. It's going to be 14"w x 16"l x 22"h this way when they put the hole in the top portion of glass for the over flow it's ABOVE the edge of the 17" tall Sump tank.

Now to the question... where do I go to get a bulkhead with a strainer on it like the one in the pictures I've seen. Also would just a 1" bulkhead be ok? I'll be running PVC off of a "T" and ball valve so I can adjust flow into the fuge.

will this work?
Where do I get the bulkhead?

Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

Since this tank is going to "Gravity Feed" into the sump and will be fed from a "Throttled" 3/4" line what size bulkhead/strainer do you think I need to have? I would imagine 3/4" would be fine but any reason to go larger?

You are welcome to any of the following:
  • two 3/4" (hose barb) bulkheads
  • one 1" (slip) bulkhead
  • one strainer (fits either size above)
  • one bulkhead wrench
Here is a pic I just took of them
