Re: Akwar'eum

well... it seem that Bob (the tailess cardinal) has met his demise and caused a small spike in nitrite. Everyone else seems to be OK. Darn it, I liked him too. :^(

Wow, Greg! I just finished reading through your thread and this fish room is GRAND.

My house is a ranch with a split floor plan, and my mother-in-law lives on one side of the house. The wall that my tank will be against is a common wall with her part of the house.

The question is: Should I kick her out so I, too, can have a fish room behind my tank? Maybe I should set up a poll to help me decide.

Re: Akwar'eum

I finally got my camera working and took photos on Jan 1. I started with an FTS then took some individuals. P.S. I am fighting a losing battle against bubble algae and have put 5 emeral crabs in. The FTS was taken after a major bubble algae removal episode.

I hope you enjoy the photos!!

FTS

Vermitid snail

Shrek on his bottle

Mushrooms are sort of starting to open more.

Mandi on the hunt. most of this bubble is gone now.

goniopora moved to the substrate and is thrilled about it!

Devils hand is giving the "finger"

elegance looking good!

Shrek getting in my face!

Bobo taking a "nap?"

"Then" pic

Now Pic

I hope you enjoyed it.

Beautiful pictures Greg! You are doing something right. Looks like a niche right out of the ocean. That teal colored Chalice (I think) is stunning. Love the Pink Bar goby, the Scooter and the clam looks real happy. Where's Scotty?

The little rascal wouldn't come out for pics, and when he did he was zipping by so fast I couldn't get a shot!? He's being an aggressive little cuss at feeding time, he goes completely spastic, I don't know what I'm gonna do with him. I love him and all, but he needs to learn some manners!

The "chalice" is a Turbinaria peltata. He's just beautiful!

I just ordered the Aquacontroller Jr, an ATO for my RO/DI, and Dt's phyto and a block of krill from Jack and would like to thank him here for his patience and great pricing... Thanks Jack!!

Re: Akwar'eum

One more little note. Just before Christmas I posted a question about my clove polyps not doing well. Prow talked me into not dosing iodide for a while, and even though I was keeping it at .06, since I have stopped dosing (Christmas Eve) I have noticed a remarkable difference in the health of nearly everything in my tank. With the exception of the clove polyps, which have nearly dissappeared, everything has actually grown. The GSP has grown nearly 1/8" per day. I'm not sure how happy I am about that though, LOL. At least they are staying out and green all the time. They were sporadic, at best, before. So, I'd like to thank Prow again for his help. The goniopora is extending much more, as well as the Trachyphylia geoffroyi. This is very interesting and a great lesson. The alkalinity and PH are staying much more stable. All in all, it was a good move for the tank.

Re: Akwar'eum

Thanks Heinz, and I have great news. Bob came out of hiding this morning. I haven't seen him since December 28, and there he was this morning, eating breakfast with his tankmates. That gives me 4 again Heinz. They don't school is the odd thing. I got 5 so they would school. One died, and the other four just hang out by themselves. So with Bob showing up, the nitrite spike is still a mystery.

Re: Akwar'eum

I had turned the lights off in the rest of the house which obviously created a mirror effect in the tank and Mandy could see herself (I don't really know if she's a girl or not, but she's to pretty to be a guy,,,so...) Here she is fighting off the intruder!

Re: Akwar'eum

Nice!!!

Hey Greg, have you tried that superglue thing with the bubble algae? Worked for me: squirt superglue (gel type i think) directly onto the bubb;e algae bunch so it's covered. wait for it to get really tacky then peel it off -- the algae comes off with the glue. I got all but a few, and it's mostly gone, I see a single bubble here and there but nothing like the big grouping I had.

Re: Akwar'eum

The latest scoop on the tank:
I just installed the Aquacontroller JR, thanks Jack! So far it's running my lights, powerheads, and heaters. I've got other things I want it to do but haven't got it all figured out yet.

Tank specs:
PH:8.25
temp:77.7 (thanks to the controller!)
NH4:0
NO2:.025 (still, could my test kit be bad?)
NO3:8
Cal:440
Mag:1325
Alk:8DKh

Re: Akwar'eum

Thanks Kathy. I would have to buy stock in the Super Glue company to make any headway with it in the tank. I have it in plague proportions and have recently started a campaign against it. It IS working but it's slow. I use a toothbrush attached to the end of a siphon tube and scrub the algae and vaccuum out the spores. It hasn't come back where I've scrubbed so far, but can only do small portions of the tank at a time. I'll keep you posted on the progress.
