Re: Akwar'eum

UUUhhhhh, sorry! Well, we put in an offer on the lake house and it was flattly rejected so we are sitting on it for a while. And in the meantime we have been looking at other places and found two today that are just as good or better. One in particular is wonderful! It has it's own private 2 acre pond (which is low due to the drought we are having) on 5.3 acres of land. The house is a foreclosure. 4 bedrooms (master bedroom with a GIGANTIC bath, one massage room, one art studio, and one guest room) and 4 1/2 baths!! One is in the basement and I was wondering about the idea of the bathtub being a sump. I wonder if the stainless steel drain would be a problem as far as contamination goes. Anyway, our realestate friend is much more behind this purchase. It mostly need cosmetic work, paint and such. The other house is much more big tank friendly and we like the land (also 5.3 acres but has a creek instead of a pond or lake) but the house is a fixer upper. It's not old but it was lived in pretty hard. Full basement also so the tank room is easy. It has an "iffy" contract pending though. Our son wants us out of "his" house asap but he's old enough where his wants won't hurt him much.

And just in case you were talking about the scrubber, it's greening up nicely. These photos look brown but it's really greenish, the lights wash it out I guess:

Talk about salt creep!! I'm covered up with it. Most of that is actually pre scrubber. It doesn't bubble and spray nearly as much now. Anyway, it's a one inch deep tray that sits on the lip of the refugium. It's 10 1/2 inces wide and 18 inches long. The drain from the DT spills into it then spills into the fuge. The lights are on opposite the DT.

ALSO!! Chris (my son) and I have replaced the ugly pantry with a super cool new bar. You see the tank immediately now upon entering the house.

The tank is just beyond the second shot. The first shot is a computer stitch job so the counter edging looks funky but I couldn't get far enough away for a FBS. We just need to stain and put a finish coat on it. He put bottles in it already!

Tank stuff: I did a 10 gallon WC today and will test tomorrow.
My goniopora has looked crappy for the last three days, but it's only one head (there are two). I don't know if it's related to the turbinaria having an allergic reation and getting hives or not. All other corals, fish and inverts look completely normal. I don't know what's up but something is. tomorrow is water test day, unless we're to busy looking at houses again! Cheers All!!!

Almost completely! I still have a lingering cough but my strength is returning. In fact I did a short workout yesterday. Poor Gail hasn't faired so well though and almost seems to have either relapsed or caught something new. Her coughing is insessant and I think she has bronchitus but is as stubborn as her father when it comes to going to the doctor. Cough syrup is the local drink around here !! Thanks for checking.

Yep! I had some acrylic lying around from past DIY's so it didn't cost anything extra. Just a little ingenuity and time.

Re: Akwar'eum

I wonder if there an ideal rate at which the water flows over the turf scrubber to make it efficient?

Re: Akwar'eum

It's the exact flow rate coming out of a prizm skimmer. lol
My coral beauty hangs out at the exit ramp of the skimmer and nips at the lawn growing there. Dual purpose.

They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Re: Akwar'eum

Sorry about the house, Greg. But it sounds like you found something even nicer! In this market, I sure wouldn't overpay for a house. Sounds like you're doing the right thing and being rational and reasonable about it.

LOVE your wood working skills! The bar looks fantastic! I told Patti, once again, we need to get Greg to build the cabinet for our predator tank.

I've been in this hobby for a year now and I must admit, until very recently, I had never heard of a turf scrubber. It's a fantastic idea! Concentrate the algae growth at one place. And algae is actually our friend when it comes to nitrate/phosphate removal.

Greg, Fantastic woodwork! Is that individual planking, or did you use a wainscott over the frame?

Re: Akwar'eum

Thanks everybody! The bar is made of plywood and 3/8 x 3" tongue and groove facing. It really turned out better than I expected with my serious woodworking tools in storage. I can't wait to have a shop again. I used all hand tools to build it! Talk about time consuming. The black marble top could have been a little better but it's not bad for a relative amateur at laying tile. I really enjoy woodworking and it gave Chris and me time to do stuff together.
