Re: Akwar'eum

Greg, I get how you feel; been there, done that, but sometimes it's just better to call a professional! I'm all for DIY, but I have found it is spirtitually, physically and financially easier to leave some things to the pros, especially plumbing that is beyond the walls. Hang in there buddy!

As for your leather, are you sure that isn't new growth?

Thanks Scott! It's all done now and everything is working great. It probably would have cost a thousand dollars to do what I did and it would have been a bargain!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what is on that coral. It could be new growth I guess but it doesn't look good to me. I have called ever pharmacy in the area and noone has loguls solution! I can't believe it. They all said they could order it and it would cost $32. I ordered Seachem Reef Dip and it will be in tomorrow.

PS: We found two houses near us, both are on small lakes, that we want to look at a little closer. Our best friend is a realestate big cheese and is setting it up for us. Details later...

Re: Akwar'eum

Ouch, Greg! You haven't been having fun, have you?!

As far as the house-hunting goes, good luck! We built the house we're in. John acted as General, and he did a really fabulous job. However, it was a lot of work. Until you do a project like this you really don't appreciate the amount of detail and decision-making that goes into a new home. I wouldn't trade the experience for the world, but I might pause before doing it again.

DIY for house stuff is such a good skill to have. As you know, a TON of money is saved that way. John and I have done so many DIY house things I think I couldn't even count them. The house we moved from was 125 years old, and it was originally a boarding house.... you might be able to imagine the amount of work that went into that... we lived for a month walking on rafters in the dining room at one point, and the bath tub was the kitchen sink for another month. Lots of good stories there!

Hopefully, you've had "The Talk" with your daughter about what is flushable and what isn't! Even though our old house had city sewers, the plumbing in the house left something to be desired, and we had more than one sewer backup in the cellar due to "unflushables" being flushed. The point had to be made several times before it sunk in!!

How exciting that you'll be getting a new house! I hope you have luck looking. The real estate market here is really awful...for sellers, but buyers have a good go of it.

I'll look forward to reading what you decide! I am able to get RS on my Blackberry so I'll be reading while I'm gone.

Thanks Barb! Yeah, Gail has had the "talk" with Tonya...twice. Maybe I should do it, that might make it more memorable .. or tell her SHE gets to clean it out next time!! Hmmmm, that might work.

I'm glad you will stay in touch while you're gone, thanks for stopping by.

I think it's a good idea for you to tell her, AND to tell her it's her job next time. That's exactly what did it at our house!

Re: Akwar'eum

Today I changed 12 gallons of water (+-10%). I removed some bubble algae in the process. After a few hours the levels are:
Temp:80.2
Salinity:35ppt
Alk:8dKH
PH:8.2
NH3/4:trace?
NO2:trace?
NO3:10
Ca:410
Mg:1325
I really don't know what the ammonia and nitrite is about. My kit has been showing a trace of NO2 for weeks now but this is the first time in over a year I've shown ammonia. Everyone is accounted for. I'm not overfeeding I don't believe but I am going to cut back somemore. I'm going to change another 12 gallons tomorrow.

Here are a couple of pics for ya, sorry they're not that great this time

Re: Akwar'eum

I got my Seachem Reef Dip today and mixed a double dose batch to dip the Devils Hand in. He was pretty stuck to the rock and probably injured him more removing him than what ever was ailing him would have done, who knows. Anyway, I dipped him for 8 minutes and is he ever not happy about it!! Look at him...

One is with a flash and one without. He was golden in color before the dip. I really hope he pulls through because he is such a great specimen in my tank. This was my first coral dip, yah for me! I sure have learned a lot in my 8 or 9 months here. I'll keep you updated on the coral. Is it a Sinularia sp?

Re: Akwar'eum

Poor thing. Please do post pics of it tomorrow. These are pretty tough corals so it will be interesting to see how fast it recovers.

Re: Akwar'eum

That doesn't look like new growth. Perhaps it is just shedding it waxy outer layer.

Re: Akwar'eum

Thanks guys. I hope it does recover. Scott, I think it was more than a waxy layer. It has sluffed off a waxy coating often, I usually have to blow it off with a baster. This was something entirely different and was progressing each day. The little guy looks absolutely terrible right now and I feel the same way. Tomorrow is a new day, we'll see what he looks like in the morning.
