Re: Kazzy's 46 bowfront

So what do you do? Inject them with it, or just pour it in? Because if it's injection, then it won't work. One last question: Could I have a CBB in a 46 gallon bow and would it focus on eating the aiptasia and not my other corals?

Re: Kazzy's 46 bowfront

My dad and I(plus grandma and grandpa and mom and my sis) went to Paradise Aquatics earlier today. I saw a gorgeous Randall's shrimp goby. Unfortunately, not only do we not have our quarantine up and running, we were going to lunch and if we had gotten it it would have spent a good 2-3 hours in the car. It looked healthy and we have added non-quarantined fish from paradise before without bad results(they are a good LFS for everything when a specific employee is on duty), but being in the car that long would be too stressful. My dad said we might get it later though, so fingers crossed.

I've never used it but it sounds like jack poured it in, PM him and ask. I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure out what a CBB is so I guess I'll just have to ask- what's a CBB? I'm sure it will be obvious once I find out. Sorry again about your fish dying.

Re: Kazzy's 46 bowfront

CBB is Copperbanded Butterfly. A beautiful fish that is known to eat aiptasia. Unfortunately they are also known to pick at corals.
They also tend to be very finickey eaters and you want to be sure to get the store to feed it for you to make sure you are getting one that will eat.

You inject Joe's Juice into the mouth of each one. Do NOT poor it into your tank.

BTW, you and your dad aren't killing them, you are spreading them. Try the Joe's Juice, really!

? We occasionally boil and dry out some live rock, and use aiptasia control squirty stuff, but other than that... BTW, is it normal that the aiptasia doesn't hurt our coral? It cuddles up to our leathers, Xenia, and almost everything else, but doesn't seem to hurt it. Could it be that the aiptasia go up to them to get leftovers from when we feed them, and so don't hurt them because they get food?
Jason, our serpent starfish has a mouth maybe half an inch wide. You really don't have to pay so much attention to its size, but the size of its mouth. As long as your fish's head cant fit inside the mouth, you should be fine.

Re: Kazzy's 46 bowfront

My dad and I were just at the LFS and we saw a Blue-Spotted Jawfish! I wanted it desperately, but the price tag is pretty hefty: 75$. I think our sand bed is deep enough. On average it's 2 3/4-3 inches deep. I've heard 3 inches is enough. Is this true? We have shells and rubble lying around for the little guy to use. My dad told me we might talk about it being an early birthday present!! I hope we get it. It is absolutely gorgeous.

Re: Kazzy's 46 bowfront

Before getting a bluespot be sure every single place on the top of your tank is covered in some way. Most use either eggcrate, gutter guard, or pond netting. Jawfish are jumpers in a big way and will jump out of holes you would never imagine them getting through.
They also tend to be hard to keep though the reason is unknown. Please read through the Bluespot Jawfish thread before getting one so you can learn from the success and failures of many people on this forum.
BTW That is a great price. You could get 2 for what I paid for one.

Re: Kazzy's 46 bowfront

I saw you there today, I was the one taking the pictures. I honestly wouldn't recommend doing a bluespot until you see it eating, and have a cover on your tank. Pat put it in a tank with no lid. I can pretty much guarantee you that it wont be there in a day or two. It will jump.

Re: Kazzy's 46 bowfront

I was planning on getting some eggcrate for the tank, and my dad approves so jumping wont be much of an issue. I hope the jawfish doesnt jump out before I can buy it. I also planned on seeing it eat. I checked it out while it was acclimating and it looked healthy enough. Its coloration was great, and it was breathing normally. I am setting up our quarantine before my dad gets home as a surprise for him.

Re: Kazzy's 46 bowfront

It's a no go on the egg crate. My first BS jumped through the egg crate. Luckily, I was there to get her back in the tank. Pond netting stretched over a custom made screen frame is the best. Like this.

Re: Kazzy's 46 bowfront

Your tank looks very nice, but is very heavily stocked now. I would skip out on the CBB and the Bluespot if I were you. Then again, I would not attempt a mandarin in such a small tank, definately wouldn't try it with a six-lined wrasse either. So maybe...
