A New Beginning

Well after a little time off and some regrouping after my last tank fiasco. It's time to give it another go!!

I just had my new tank delivered to the house last week. It is 10' long x 30" high x 24" wide. I think total volume is around 380 gallons.

Did some changes this time around. This tank is made of 3/4" acrylic instead of glass. It has two external overflows on each short end and some serious eurobracing up top.

The last tank was viewable from three sides. This one, obviously, is viewable from two. However, with the two extra feet in length and the external overflows the viewing surface will be better in my opinion.

Anyway, just wanted you all to know that I hadn't thrown in the towel. I will post some pics with my progress as I go and, as always, you input is greatly appreciated

Re: A New Beginning

Does anyone know which glue I'm supposed to use on the spa-flex pvc? I have heard it is a special kind. Any advice is appreciated.

Re: A New Beginning

I believe it's called Rain and Shine. It is the blue PVC glue for flexible PVC. It should be marked right on the can.

Re: A New Beginning

Since I am taking "mulligan" on this tank I had a question for you gurus out there.

How far off the water should I be hanging my MH lights? I want to make sure I getting the proper light to the bottom of the tank but at the same time I want to make sure I don't cause any problem for the acrylic?

I have two 400w MH and two 250 MH.

Thanks,
Stil

Re: A New Beginning

My 250 watts are about 10-12" above the water.. Im not sure about the 400 watt bulbs though. hopefully someone will chime in on them. You would think it would be the same. But heat might be an issue.

Re: A New Beginning

Got an unusual question.

I am running a Sequence Manta Ray for my return and the new tank has an output on each end of the tank.

I am debating whether I can run the return in series (meaning the water flow gets to one side of the tank then the other) or if I should run the output underneath the tank to the center of it, then run the returns to the overflows.

I know I am probably not making much sense but I am having a hard time putting it into words. The reason I am worrying about this is because I don't want to have a lot of flow coming from the first output and much less from the second.
