Re: HMA’s 115 gal. Reef Tank

Thank you all for the nice comments

It is FRIDAY .... Update time:

The current values of the 115gal tank:

Ammonia : 0
Nitrites : 0
Nitrates : < 1
Phosphates : < 0,1
Salinity : 1.0232
Alk : 9dkH
Cal : 410 ppm
Mag : 1360 ppm
Water : RO/DI
Ph – 8.1 to 8.3
Supplements: Balling Complete +Plus ( Ca, Mg, Na, Trace Elements and Amino Acids)

Today I have changed the po4 absorber (DiakatB) and the activated carbon. The last weeks the po4 level has risen continuously on a low level, a sure sign it is time to change the absorber.

All animals are healthy, there were no major problems last week. Here a FTS of 115gal tank from this morning:

I have to show two new acquisitions. 10 days ago I have seen 2 Centropyge flavicauda or white tail dwarf angel in my LFS. Because these are traded in Europe very seldom I have taken them immediately. Already during the quarantine has taken both very well frozen food (mysid shrimp etc.). Here both are to be seen in the display tank. The little male are approx. 3.5 cm and the female approx. 2.5 cm.

An other new acquisition is these Acropora verweyi.

and a new Pic of the Centropyge potteri - Potter angel

and the Centropyge bispinosa - Coral beauty

Beautiful as always! There's just something about the composition of your reef as a whole that feels just right...

Great additions too!

Yippie! Time for the Friday update.
Spectacular as always.
How do you keep all of the angels from nipping your corals? Also how do you keep them from fighting with each other?

Re: HMA’s 115 gal. Reef Tank

I agree with Mark, Heinz. It's as though I'm swimming along in the ocean and come upon a small knoll of reef.... Heinz's reef!

It is SO natural in it's composition.

Love the additions!

And, now that my tank is up and running, and I'm testing my parameters I'm watching yours closely and comparing mine. The mystery of the chemistry is starting to come together in my mind.

This is another part of the beauty of RS..where the greater experience of one is helping the very inexperienced other see the way! Thank you for posting your information each week. It's a valuable part of my reefing education.

Thanks Mark, Lynn ....

@Lynn
The Angels nipping very seldom an a Coral. I have an acceptable amount of green algae in the display tank, that's to more than 80% the major food of the angels.

They have fought only during the first day a little, since that time never again.

@BarbMazz
Thank you so much Barb, I am glad ....

Where do you hide the algae? I've never seen any in any of your pics.
Spectacular as always. Somehow you know how to keep everybody happy and get away with things most of us cannot.

hihi ...LoL

I do not hide the algae. They are to be seen in every picture. Under the green Acropora just like in the background of the Potter's hinge or also below the C. bispinosus .... they are everywhere, but only quite short ones.

The important factor is the right relation between corals, fish and other Inverts. If one then still the water values puts so that only quite minimally PO4 and NO3 exists, these small algae grow rather well, however, the corals stand the charges still without problems. This is difficult \ " a dance to the volcano \ ".
