Re: HMA’s 115 gal. Reef Tank

The hermit is certainly described as a not reef save. She's supposed to catch smaller fish and also eat according the description. However, I could never observe this. She bothers no corals and other Invertebrates, only the starfishes must sometimes suffer, she eats, at least I could observe this, in the skin of the starfishes without to injure this obviously. I have 3 of it in the 115gal for 4 years now.

The Qt…now … is standard Doni. I dont use a sponge filter because I always seawater to the immediate use have ready. I rather change every day 5-10% of water in the QT. Up to now in this manner I never had problems with nitrite or nitrate in the QT. The QT is used at most for 7-10 days, is a clear and very short period. A little more work than inevitably, but is not really worth mentioning.

Re: HMA’s 115 gal. Reef Tank

As usual, I change each Friday water and clean the tanks. This week some works have still come in addition. Thus I have caught as the first the Scopas tang from the 115gal. Now he swims in my FO and has there substantially more place. He has well acclimatised in the meantime, and has no problems with the other fish. There was no quarrel or aggressions. All aquariums have got in addition new live sand (12 kg), the115gal as well as all breeding tanks. In the course of the last 4 years a considerably amount of sand had already resolved; now this is compensated again. In addition, were complemented with it to missing bacteria. During the next days the Clarkii pair will also change in the FO. Also they become too large for the 115gal and develop more and more to "rowdies" with own ideas of the look of the aquarium. New in the 115gal is a couple Centropyge loriculus and an Acropora vaughani. During the next weeks some other Acropora and Stylopora corals will still come in addition. The aquarium should be taken a little stronger with SPS corals there the Soft corals in the growth hardly to be held under control.

Flame angel (VIDEO)

Sphaeramia nematoptera (VIDEO)

Acropora vaughani

...and as usual the current values of the 115gal tank:

Ammonia : 0
Nitrites : 0
Nitrates : 5
Phosphates : 0,01
Salinity : 1.0230
Alk : 9 dkH
Cal : 460 ppm
Mag : 1320 ppm
Water : RO/DI
Ph – 8.0 to 8.2
Supplements: Balling Complete +Plus ( Ca, Mg, Na, Trace Elements and Amino Acids)

Hi Terry ...

and thanks for the trust sedate in me, but I am sure you set up your new tank also very well without me. I wish you a lot of success with your new plan and am sure you do it excellently. I have taken over, by the way, some of your ideas for the remote control of your tanks. Unfortunately, I cannot use the same hardware like you (110 / 220V) what would be very helpful. But there is comparable hardware to shop also here in Germany at a small company I will be use. I will use WLAN as well as relay components. I will also insert an SMS module for the mistake transmission. So.... Thank you again for the tips and ideas.

Re: HMA’s 115 gal. Reef Tank

Wouldn't it be fun if Heinz could take a month or two to come to the States and each of us pay his way to our homes to work his magic on our tanks! He'd get a free vacation to see a beautiful country and we would get his expertice. Hmmmm...think about it.

Very cool, Heinz! Don't hesitate to ask me for help if you need any, with any of the connections or programming.

I feel pretty comfortable with wiring these things up now and the programming is a piece of cake.

Thanks for the offered support Terry, however I studied computer science, programing is for me still the simplest side. Electronics is sometimes a problem for me. But with the today's electronic modules also that is actually not a real big challenge.
