I learn something new everyday! Thanks! I won't be getting any cowfish anytime soon, but it's good information to have.

Re: HMA’s 115 gal. Reef Tank

Sorry to hear about your Toby pufferfish Heinz.
They are a beautiful fish.
Glad to hear everyone else is recovering.

Thanks also for the tip about RO water baths helping to remove toxins.
It makes perfect sense now that you say it, but I would never have thought about it.

They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Boy, where have I been? Sorry for your loss! That's what happens when you say you are happy with your tank, you put a curse on it. Glad you were able to save some of your stuff though.

Re: HMA’s 115 gal. Reef Tank

News of the Hawaiian, he still lives and is back in 115gal. He has proceeded immediately to his old sleeping place and now there he is since hours. I think he got it. In a few more days he will also (hopefully) swim again cheerfully through the aquarium.

Result:
Of poisoning the water have died with my Toby my Kole tang and the small yellow box fish as well as a sea urchin. All the other occupants have survived the misfortune thanks the quick reaction.

And again I have learnt a little bit in addition !

BTW .... A Happy New Year 2008 to all of you

Re: HMA’s 115 gal. Reef Tank

Glad to hear the Hawaiian pulled through. It's great that you knew exactly what to do to save him and most of the rest of the tank,
I will miss the box fish though. He was an absolute cutie.

Re: HMA’s 115 gal. Reef Tank

The Hawaiian is BACK.

Today he has eaten to first times again. He still does a small white spot (not to see on the photo), but this spot will disappear during the next days, with well fortified feed. He swims again in the aquarium and I am glad about that .

Picture from today:

Re: HMA’s 115 gal. Reef Tank

Glad your Hawaiin is doing much better.
I saw one of the LFS with a shipment of Tobys Sunday and thought of you.

I am surprised that the urchin succumbed to the poisoning. Are they considered delicate?

The poison of the puffer fish is extremely effective. It is Tetrodotoxine, one of the most dangerous poisons in the nature; it paralyzes the nerve tracts or the sodium connections and is absolutely deadly for all animals with a nervous system, like fish, cancers, sea urchins etc.

Heinz, I am so sorry for your losses. I agree, we lose in this hobby, but the gains are always much greater. Thank you for your wisdom.

Yes Terry ..... sorry, but this is 100% true, also for your porcupine. Should he die once and you do not discover this on time (latest 3 hours), the whole fish trimming can die of the resigning poison. This is the reason why puffers have no natural enemies, they are fatally toxic for each them would eat.
