| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Lynn's pony adventure Ok, now I am started to get anxious to see some life in there. I badly want to re-do the scape and need go get a solid cycle but I am looking for ideas after that. The primary residents will be 4 pair of seahorses. (I forget the kind but Matt suggested some and I will follow his suggestion. What I am looking for now is an extremely seahorse cleanup crew plus perhaps a fish or two for color. I already have a yellow clown goby and a yellow watchman goby and some queen conchs. To the best of my knowledge these are all seahorse safe. Obviously I need more in my CUC but I do not want crabs of any kind and I don't want anything like a sea hare that could polute the tank if they ink and dye. Other than that I welcome any and all suggestions partucularly for the cuc. The only corals that will be in this tank are low light and branchy for hitching posts. I have one giant gorgonian that is going to be seriously fragged and added to this tank. Who knows what else but this tank oinly has 2 54w t5 lights so corals are not much of a problem in this tank. Anybody who has ideas of a fish or two to add color while playing nice with my ponies please let me know.

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: Lynn's pony adventure The species I suggested was H. erectus. As for a CUC, I personally like astrea and cerith snails for algae control; nassarius, Illynassarius and micro brittle stars for detrius and left over food clean up. The nass and Illynass snails are also good at keeping the sand bed stirred up. Bristelworms are great to, IMHO, but a lot of folks don't like them just because of the creepy factor they posses. As for corals, just about any soft coral will be just fine. I personally keep, leathers, mushrooms, zoas, and palys with my ponies.

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: Lynn's pony adventure OK, avoid Cucumbers, while it's unlikely that anything would cause them to do so, they can expel their innards if threatened. As far as small, non-boisterous fish, Firefish would be perfect for this kind of setup, IMO. You might also consider an Assessor. While I have no personal experience with them, the consensus I have seen is that they are shy fish, and should cause no problems with the ponies. Pipefish might also be something to look at, some have a very similar diet. |

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: Lynn's pony adventure Avoid adding pipefish with your ponies. While they are in the same family, they are not compatible with CB ponies. All the pipefish you find on the market are wild caught and should not be mixedf with Cb ponies. It is the same as mixing WC and CB ponies in the same tank. The WC are carrying bacteria and pathogens that the CB have never been exposed to and it can cause some serious problems in the tank. Any of the gobies will be fine. It would be easier if you give us an idea as to what fish you have in mind and we can go from there. I can tell you that clowns, angels, tangs, triggers, damsels, lions, groupers, butterflies, anglers, eels and even dottybacks are not good ponie tank mates. (yes folks have actually tried with all of those I listed).

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: Lynn's pony adventure Not a problem A few years ago it wasn't as big of an issue as most of the ponies available were also WC. Now with the regular availability of CB ponies it is not really something we advise doing any more.

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Lynn's pony adventure Well I seem to have a fascination with gobies so sounds like one or two might not be a bad idea. I already have a yellow clown goby and a yellow watchman goby that are scheduled for this tank. Need some other colors though. Too much yellow. I could go with some other clown gobies. I love the citron I have in the reef and he is certainly a calm fish. I also want to keep the bio-load in check since the ponies are the entire purpose for this tank and are definitely primary on any and all thoughts. Any other fun but calm gobies anybody can think of? Also would it be ok to add the gobies after the cycle and before the ponies or am I just asking for trouble there? What do ou think about a firefish? The one I had was super calm but that was just one fish and others could be different. Maybe even purple firefish. My LFS has them all the time so that one is easy to get. ![]() How about some shrimp? I am thinking cleaners or blood shrimp that are too big for the ponies to eat. I had a cleaner in the24 and it didn't cause any problem that I know of.

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: Lynn's pony adventure I really like the firefish for a pony tank. They add some nice color and are more of an open water fish so they are seen quite often. There are a bunch of other gobies. The green banded gobies, red headed gobies, and even neon gobies make for good tank mates. Yes you can add the gobies first, this will help establish the bio-filter more before the ponies arrive. Cleaner shrimp are hit and miss. Some folks never have trouble with them and others say they bother the horses by always want to clean them. I personally don't keep any shrimp with my horses as I feed them live ghost shrimp on occasion for a treat. So to them any shrimp in the tank is a treat.

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Lynn's pony adventure There is a beautiful purple firefish that just may come home with me soon. Going to add the grocery shrimp while I am at MACNA and we will see what the prams look like after that. I also have to look up the adult size of the ponies and see how much bio-load room I have before making any final decisions. I know I want 4 pair of ponies and I need to move the yellow clown and yellow watchman out of the 20. It is way overloaded but I was afraid I would be unalble to catch them if I put them in the reef. So they ended up in the 20 for now with lots of skimming and lots of water changes to keep things in line. Keep the ideas coming. Decisions have not been made and won't be for at least a week and probably longer. Thanks to all.

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: Lynn's pony adventure Average adult size of H. erectus is about 7 inches in height. I have seen them as large as 9-10 inches but 7 seems to be about average.
