Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Wow! I feel privileged. Booze on RS on family day.
Thanks for checking it.
Water is going in the tank now. I have about 65g in and another 30 mixing. Since the only thing going in today (or any time soon) is the rock I am going to reduce the mixing time to get the water in the tank. I am usually totally paranoid and mix for a minimum of 24hrs but I have to have water for the rock today.
I am very glad you like it Matt. I will be picking your brain big time as this project progresses. Thanks for all the help you have already given.
BTW are you going to MACNA? I just decided I was going after all and would love to meet you there if you are going.
Thanks again everyone for your help and encouragement. My credit card company and LFS thank you as well.

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Pick away, I will help with anything I can.

I am hoping to attend MACNA, even if it is just a day trip. I can't do all 3 days due to work but am hoping to do at least Saturday and possibly Sunday.

Awesome! I look forward to meeting you there.
It's nice to have a face to go with the name. Plus I definitely owe you a couple of drinks at least for all of your help.

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

It would be great to meet you also.

As for owing me something, just many years of you enjoying the ponies will suffice. I am just glad to help you finally attain one of your dreams.

However, if we do get together at MACNA, I will certainly have a few drinks with you.

Then Jack it is. Just don't make me drink it. Vodka is more my style.
Thanks for the tip.

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Ok, there is now 100 lps of lr in the tank.
75 lbs of Hatian and 25 lps of Tonga, mostly branch.
I have had a busy weekend so the rock and water are in the tank and the circulation is on. That is about it. The fock is pretty much a giant heap with the branch on the top.
Everything else will wait for another day. No pics tonight. I just gotta get some R/R.
I will say that the rock was much lighter than I expected. I keep thinking he was going to tell me I was close to the amt I had purchased, but we kept going and going. I do expect to do some rock swapping once it has been there for a couple of weeks. Lots of life on it but no purple. I can easily swap a new piece for a purple piece in the reef. I also may do some swaping for aquascape reasons. It is supposed to be cured now but it will stay in the 90 for at least a couple of weeks to make sure all is well. I know thre was some encrusting sponge on some of the rock that is almost guaranteed to die. Once params have been stable for a couple of weeks then I can start swapping things around.
So far two hitchikers found.
One sea hare that is now in the overflow of the 125 and one small starfush. Bigger than a micri brittle but still pretty small. He can certainly stay a while.
That's about it for this weekend. Hopefully I will have more energy this week and get some scaping done.

WOW, you've had a busy weekend. Go grab a cold beverage of your choice and relax a bit. You deserve it. We can wait a days for pictures.

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Well you will just have to wait. At least until late tomorrow and I am not making any promises on that one, It will depend on how I feel after work.
Right now it is just the tank with water and a hube pile of rock. No point in taking pics in it's curremt ugly state.

If you guys are ever in NJ, see if you can visit the Marine Mammal Stranding Center on Brigantine island. Brig is right off Atlantic City, there's a bridge near... Harrah's?... that goes over. It's a small place, but the owners Robert Schoelkopf and Sheila Dean (think they're married now) started it in, like, the late 70s. They can keep some creatures, there were usually an average of 3 to 5 seals there or a turtle or two, but they ship others to local aquariums or elsewhere for help. There's a website too,

Marine Mammal Stranding Center home

I volunteered there one summer. They may have gotten the funding they were after to expand the place, haven't been there in years. But I still order a few tees every year! As a matter of fact, Bob and Sheila used to be friends with the pet store owner I worked for in Absecon, they came in for stuff and dog food, they had like 4 dogs at the time, if I remember correctly.

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

And Lynn, the tank is AWESOME!!! MIght have mentioned, there's one EXACTLY like it in the one LFS I like. Now I have to check if it has those stand doors too, that's fantastic for access.
