Yup Catalina gobies are fine with seahorses. As long as you keep the temps low, which Lynn will not have a problem doing.

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Thanks Matt. I may add them to the list.
I think this is the slowest build ever. LOL We still haven't moved the chiller to this tank since that will require cleaning out the garage first. So we are waiting for it to cool down a bit before tackling that job. Once I prove to myself that I can keep the temp where it needs to be, then and only then will I start stocking the tank.
Man is it hard though to look at the tank every day and not have my ponies.
I'll try to get some new pics up today since I have the LR all in and waiting. Some sand is there as well. I didn't realize how much sand I had in the 24g. We took that sand and put it in the 90 and it is almost an inch deep with just the sand from the 24. Still need more though if I am going to try a jawfish in this tank.

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

Ok, I finally caught up on reading your thread Lynn. A lot of great support on this thread and terrific information. Now, I am not sure why you feel you can't keep the temp down? With a big enough chiller, that should be no problem.

Pics, waiting on pics

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

I think the key is a big enough chiller. I have a 1/4 HP chiller that we bought last year to try to help with the temp. It wasn't able to chill the 125 + 24 + 29g sump + 29g fuge plus MH lights. I think I was just asking too much of that size chiller. I am hoping when I put it on the 90 I will be able to keep the temp in range. One of the downsides of living in FL. It gets awfully hot here even with the AC on all the time.
I am reasonably sure it will work great for the 90 with my T5 lights but I want to be certain since I just can't bear to watch any more ponies die. Everyone tells me it is the temp since my reef runs at 79-80 with the chiller and lots of fans.

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

1/4 should do it. Just how cool do ponies need to be?

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

I believe the recommendation is 72 - 76 but I will have to check again before stocking the tank. It is pretty low though.
From what I understand it is only partially the ponies that are the problem with the higher temps it is the bacteria that like the higher temps and infects the ponies.

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

LOL I am trying and I am determined to get it right this time.
Research, research, research and don't do it unless I can do it right.
That is why I am taking soooo long on this one.

I agrre Lynn, an important factor is a constant temperature of the water. I could make best experiences with a temperature of 25°C (77°F). With this temperature I could obtain best breeding results. Very importantly thereby however less the temperature is, than rather their Konstanz. My Ponies feels with 25°C very well, as is to be seen in the picture.

The turtle is a highly endangered species that was being rescued/rehabilitated by the Baltimore Aquarium when we visited last year. I totally forget what kind but it was really cool to watch how they were caring for it and from what I understand it was later released back into the wild. It was also pretty big so even if you could get one it would require quite a habitat. I want to say it was about 2-3 ft across. They had it in a monstrous rehab tank so it looks much smaller than it really is.
Here is a link from when the turtle was at the aquarium. It was a Kemp's Ridley.

Glad to see your getting back into the ponies Lynn!
Looks like you've done alot of research and I think the 90 will make a great home for them!

Re: Lynn's pony adventure

HMA your ponies are incredible.
That last pic looks just like the first ones I had.
I really miss them and can't wait to get them again. I just love to sit and watch them. They are so graceful and so silly at the same time. My kudas used to hitch on my finger and just stay there while the cleaner shrimp cleaned my hand and the pony at the same time.

Sorry Lynn, unfortunately, the two images is not as good, wanted two as example. You have they been properly recognized as Kuda. It is my Kuda breeding pair.
