Heinz, any way to tell the difference in fungias?
The differences are relatively slightly Kathy. All Fungia it is possible to move (besides, approx. 30 cm during the day), are Fungia with longer tentacles as for example Fungia repanda or Heliofungia for all surrounding corals dangerously there they sting very strongly and can other corals even kill.

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

I didnt know that Fungias have a powerful sting.

The filters in the RO unit and the DI media all were changed this weekend.
TDS is now RO=2, DI=0.
I also installed the booster pump. Water pressure went from 22psi to 70psi.
Instead of 1g per hour DI water was produced at 3.75g per hour.
Very cool!

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Okay.
Here is the RODI unit from the filterguys.biz
I have the unit in the kitchen hanging on the side of the cabinets where the sink is. The fridge is next to the sink and hides the unit.
The copper tubing you see is the water line to the auto ice maker.

The pump is located under the kitchen sink.
I mounted in on a spare piece of lumbar (2x8). I stapled an inch of foam onto the bottom of the wood to silence any vibration.

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Thanks Heinz!! Found out the hard way that they sting!!

Jeff, great idea on teh ice maker. I don't want to make ice from city water here, and I keep forgetting to filter enough water to make crystal lite.

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Kathy the copper tube is not connected to the RODI unit. It is connected to the water source under the kitchen sink. City of Chicago has really good tap water although We do have a different in-line filter on the ice machine

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Is the QT ready yet? Have you scoped any candidates out or is there anything in there now?

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

You know Mark the QT is probably all set. I have lost track on how long it has been up and running ~about 6 weeks now. I have done no testing on it at all so i need to get my ---- motivated to see how well it has cycled. I did do WC on all 3 tanks yesterday including 40% on the QT. Its nitrAtes had to be high as i have kept the tank (bacteria) fed with fresh squid and scallop
I also need to set up the PH monitor that I bought from Woodstock.

I think tonight I will add some ammonia (3ml) to the tank and see what type of spike I get and how quickly the NH3 goes back to zero.

Now I did see that Diver's Den had a Long nose hawk fish that just posted yesterday. It was not there on Monday.

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Well last (friday) night I tested the QT.
I have a couple of chunks of squid stewing in there.
Ammonia was zero. Very low trItes and High trAtes. as expected.
I added 3ml of pure household ammonia to the QT and one hour later tested ammonia again. It was still 0! A bit surprising.
I ran a test this morning before work. Trites seemed a bit higher and I went to take a shower while the NH3 test was going on and of course I forgot to check before I left the house.

The LNHF is still in the Divers Den.
I have a feeling I will be ordering him before the weekend is over.
