I just read your QT thread. That is FULL of valuable information. Thank you for putting that together!
Thanks Terry. There are some great threads on how to set up a QT here on RS but I found I still had a lot of questions. I was hoping my first QT thread would help others set up their QT.

Scott, Opus says thanks for the compliment.
I am pretty happy to have caught 3 of those crabs in the past week or so. That had to make a good dent in their remaining numbers.

I haven't had a cool discovery of the day since the early days of this tank and this thread but I had one Saturday night. I am scanning with the flashlight and I spy a hermit that looks to be partly out of its shell. It is a green leg hermit that I believe my LFS called a mexican tri-color leg hermit. Anyway there is some blue stuff on the hermits back and the hermit is hunching his back and this blue stuff is going into the water column. At first I thought they were just eggs then I realized these little things were actually swimming. Momma Hermit was releasing a brood of larvae. Mama did this 3 times. I tried to get a pic of the larvae on mommas back but the only shot I got is too blurry.
Here is a pic of momma after releasing her brood. Momma is kind of Cameflouged by two big patches of coraline. Notice some of the ricordias are having a nice meal. It was Joe's Crab Shack night in the 55 around the time the clocks jumped forward.

I tried to get a pic of the brood as they swam towards the moon light.
The cannon xti gave me this pic of some of the larvae

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Wow!!! Great pics! I love watching my tanks at night. Well, the predator tank is really boring because everyone is hiding and asleep. But the reef REALLY comes alive at night.

I've been reading about using the red led flashlights for night viewing. I need to get one of those and try it out.

Thanks everybody.

I like my blue lcd moon lights too.
The Anchor coral especially POPS under it

I am excited today!
The tax return fairy is delivering the 100mm Macro lens for my canon xti camera. Now maybe I can get some pics almost as nice as Dr. Scott's shots
Maybe!

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Just curious, but how far was the camera from the subject when you snapped those pics?

To get all of the Open Brain and the Anchor coral I was probably 4-5 feet away. For the fungia and the shroom I was probably 2 feet away.
I was closer to Opus probably about a foot away.

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

That's what I really like about your lense. You didn't have to have the lense tight up against the glass to get it. That's what all the reviewers were raving about too.

Great choice of lenses!!!

And thanks for the information!
