Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Your right Heinz I haven't posted here in a week.
It was a busy reef weekend (my weekend ends are Sunday/Monday)
I rearranged the dining room where the 55g tank is located.
Moved the table to a corner and made the room into a reef room!

That book above the tank is "Little Nemo in Slumberland" by Windsor McCay
It was a Sunday newspaper full page comic strip from about 1905-1912.
Kind of a Calvin and Hobbes of its day with more imagination - if you can believe that. The little boy is Little Nemo and most of the story takes place in his dreams.

Here is a link that gives you a taste of this amazing comic strip

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Thanks Barb for all the kind words!
What can I say?!

I dont know what type of wood the floors are.
The building is an old 2 flat (must be near 100yo) with two apartments.
We have rented the top floor for 4 years now.

Ikea made the chairs and lil table. They are now a discontinued model.

I discovered Lil Nemo at The Milwaukee Museum of Modern Art in an exhibit of 12 classic American comic artists a couple of years ago. i had never heard of Lil Nemo and fell in love right then.

I posted new pics of Opus in My First QT thread but I'll add some here this week too. Opus has been in QT for 24 days now. Over half way home!

I know I should QT any clams but I dont have the lights in my QT tank to keep them there for 6 weeks. I may QT a clam for a couple of days?? I'll have to look into that.

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

You're welcome! You seem like my kinda guy... interested in different sorts of things.

Good ole Ikea! I like their stuff. We're finishing our basement and I think I'm going the ikea route down there.

I saw your Opus pics. He is such a pretty color and I love his little face! He has a sort of innocent look about him, if fish can look innocent.

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

One night this weekend I was not tired so I stayed up late watching the tank with a flash light. There was a lot going on that night.

A couple of months ago I put some chaeto in my lil sump. Im not sure why but it did survive down there. The might have been just too much flow. So recently I thought I would try chaeto again but this time in the DT. I put some in a plastic soap dish and positioned it behind the rock so It really is not noticable unless you look for it. Saturday night I flash the light back there and I see movement - not just the ton of pods. There is a gorilla crab in the chaeto. I pulled the dish out and fished him out. I never expected the chaeto to be a gorilla trap. I couldn't kill the guy so after i took some pics of him I put him in the sump. Mantis #3 can have him for a friend - or a meal.

I know I have a few small gorilla crabs remaining from the TBS LR.
I actually speared one last week for the first time in many months. Then shortly after I put the one crab in the sump I see another small gorilla on the substrate away from the rock. I grab my skewer and try to catch him.
I am trying to crush him against the front of the tank but his crabby shell is tuff! I have taken some legs. Then I notice a gang of hermints that are coming a runnin and they look hungry. # hermits now have the crab and they are going to town when suddenly my serpant star comes from the back of the tank, through some rock and over the Open Brain. He joins the hermits and actually steals the crab away and gobbles it up. The tank must have smelled like Joe's Crab Shack cuz then a couple of Whelks show up but they are to late.

In the last week I have gotten 3 gorilla crabs.
I also discovered a second porcelain crab that I had not ever seen before.

Then the night got really exciting. . . . .

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Great story Jeff and good catch! I very rarely see anymore Gorilla crabs, but I know they are there! Some of my Porcelain crabs have gotten huge. I can't believe it. Opus is a real gem!
