Thanks very much for the link - I'm reading and taking notes. I really need to work on my DoF too.

I alway use a tripod when taking tank pics even before I got the SLR camera.

I have more to learn and need much more practice. I sure am glad this is a digital camera. I couldn't afford to learn this shotting on film.

Jeff, have you read elsewhere what I told you about them? With the reading I do on fish I've noticed that some very different opinions are given on the same kind of fish depending on where you read. I imagine different authors report behaviors they've noticed, but that might just be that individual fish. I'll be interested to hear what you decide to do. Hope I didn't put you off!
Barb I did read that somewhere else. I think it was on wet web media.
If Diver's Den has a long nose available I will get him even if he is my first fish. I trust personal experience over whatever I read and I trust scott.
Of course if I do get a long nose first he could have a different temperament than Scott's. If that happens I could move the long nose to the QT for a time out, Make a temporary egg crate divide in the tank, or change the rock work around to get the fish over any territorial issues.

I say go for it. You obviously know what you're doing. I was hoping you weren't upset with me because I have NO experience whatsoever, and who was ~I~ to tell you that. And of course it is much better to trust to experience and friendship than what you read somewhere.

They are really neat fish and I can understand why you'd like one first. At the LFS their movements were fascinating.. the way they were in and out and around the rocks. There were five or six of them in the tank and it was like watching a bunch of monkeys playing!

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Barb i appreciate that you told me what you had read.
That made me do some research on the issue of long nose territorial agressiveness. I did find another place that also confirmed it. That is why I asked Scott as I knew he had a long nose and I wanted to know what his experience was with the fish.
I was not upset with you at all. Just the opposite I was grateful that you said something. I don't have a lot of experience with fish either and I hope I never have so much experience that I no longer have "beginners mind."

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

ahhhhhhh! Shucks Barb, Thanks!

The Ric arrived at 11am!
Alas I am at work. Mike said not to acclimate them so I had Alonzo open the package and put the rics in the tank. I talked him through it over the phone. It was his first hands on coral experience. He said the water was cold and the rics were really small but I bet they will be fine now they are in the tank.

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Jeff, my long nose is very well behaved as well. Never messes with my coral banded shrimp or any other fish. My yellow tang chased him around when I added him, for the first two weeks he had to hide from her. I've added a few fish after him that he never took any interest in. Actually, my lawnmower knocks him off his perch and he just waits patiently for the lawnmower to leave so he can go back. He is a pellet fiend, he eats frozen and won't touch flakes but he loves pellets most of all.

BTW - you're avatar intrigued me and after seeing the game, I've been eagerly awaiting the release of Beautiful Katamari for Wii! (2/29/08).

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Thats very cool to know about your long nose.
You will fall in love with Katamari. It is such an amazing game.

So as i said the Rics arrived at 11am and were put in the tank. When i got home this evening I had to search for a couple of them as they had been moved in the current. One of them had come unattached in shipping.

After i rounded them all up i mounted them to some larger rubble and I place them together on a flat rock to get a pic to take a pic.

Thanks Flricordia. They are awesome!!
