Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

When i got the fungia Sharky's Reef had it mounted on a small rock.
It was in a small plastic cup when they bagged it up for me.
When I got it into my tank There was some other rubble in the cup and there was a tiny green polyp on another little piece of rock. So i thought perhaps that it had dropped a baby. I kept it in the cup in my tank for protection but when I mounted the fungia on the rock i decided to mount the Lil polyp there too. I just tried to get a pic of it and I came up with a pretty good shot of the fungia - if not the "baby"

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Mantis #1 has been out of sight for many days so i figured he was molting.
Last night he made an appearance for the first time in probably 6 days and i gave him a piece of raw squid. He was hungry. He saw the feeding stick coming and came way out of his rock to get the calamari. He looked like he was a deeper hue of blue.
Then Tonight he was in the middle of a tank posing for a pic.
Very Handsome!

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

I pulled out my old camera to use the macro setting and I was able to get a pic of the "baby" coral that came in with the fungia. I started an ID thread with some of them. Baby Fungia or some other coral???
Here is a another pic

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Sorry Jeff, but that looks like a Anemonia cf. manjano to me ! Little Fungias develop in the limestone skeleton of the mother animal and are absolutely identical, they only much more fragile.

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Thanks Heinz, Do they come in Neon Green? I have only seem brown varieties of manjano

I am expanding my Ricordia collection thanks to flricordia. He has some amazing looking rics. This is a pic that mike emailed me and I have circled my new animals. The two in the back are rainbows. They are to arrive on Tuesday.

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Thanks for that link. I had to use babblefish.com to translate the german to English. it was nice to see what others were saying about the majano - some people keep them - they just control their numbers and location.

One of my little Mexican tri colored leg hermits has been feeding off of the green monti. 3 times in the last day or so I have taken him off the monti and relocated him to the far end of the tank. A few hours later he is back.
I had removed him a few times before and he would not quickly return. I think he might be feasting on some of the cleaner shrimp poo that collects on the coral. None of the other hermits bother any of the 3 montis.
This little crab got relocated this time to the nano tank. If he acts up there he will find himself in the sump with mantis #3.
