Here are tonights test results NH3 <.5 NO2 .1 NO3 5 PO4 .05 It will be interesting (to me anyway) to see how these number change over the next couple of days with out me doing daily water changes. There were just a few tiny spatterings of the red cyanobacteria. They were so small that unless you were an obsessive reefer looking for cyno you would not have seen it. I turkey bastered it away.

| Beautiful Katamari | Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain The Sea Cucumber that I thought was dead last week has been tooling arouns the tank a bit and He spent the last 3 days on Mantis #2's Rock, near his burrow and rock opening. I thought that Maybe I should have moved the sea cuke but I left him be. This evening the cuke was on the sand, looking very skinny and not moving. I nudged him and he moved a bit. Several hours later he still had not moved. I looked at him more closely and there were two places that he had open wounds. Obviously Mantis #2 had a cucumber salad for lunch today. I immediately removed the cuke. On a lighter note I had been wanting to get some lunar lights for this tank but I knew I could not put then too close to the 250W MH. Last week when I went to the Skokie LFS to get the salifert ammonia test as I was leaving I noticed a nano that had a light in the water in the tank. I came home and did some research and found the Hydor Aqua Color lights HYDOR Each light has 4 blue LED lights. They are submergable and have a suction cup. My tank is acrylic and has an acrylic top with some large opening cut into it. I was able to attach these light to the top of the tank. ![]() ![]() This morning on the reef Dr Rice (Condy Anemone) has a great safe spot in the rock. Serpent Star and Sea Cucumber are nearby. Hermits and snails at work already ![]()

As for your cyno, if you need to remove more you might be better off siphoning it out instead of spreading it around with the baster. My nitrates took about a month to go down after the second batch of rock was added. Sorry about the tree sponge and the cuc!

In deciding to keep mantis #1 & #2 I am fully aware of what Mantis do and eat. I have been giving the manti little pieces of shrimp and calamri. I am hoping that if I feed them they will be less likely to take out other livestock. Maybe. possibly. could happen. Mantis #3 is still in the sump. I put a couple of little pieces of rock and made an overhang for him but he keeps going over the baffles to the return section of the sump. The other day when i was cleaning the sponge on the return pump he was chasing a couple of lancelets around. I have also given him some small snails from the nano that keep getting into the nano's pump. I cull them from the nano so I figured they might as well feed Mantis#3. Here are tonights test results: NH3 <.5 NO2 .1 NO3 5 PO4 .05 No change from last night. I am glad there is no increase in trites or trates. Perhaps the red tree sponge was the main culprit in causing the high readings late last week.

| Beautiful Katamari | Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain Last night I fed the manti, the flower anemone, and the condy a bit of shrimp and calamari. The fungia and Red open Brain in the nano also joined in the feast. All ate happily. This morning as I am walking out the door I take a look at the tank and I dont see Dr. Rice, the Condy. She must be in her hole in the rock. I look. No not there. I know Condies can move around a lot so I look around the rocks and behind. No sign. Then I glance up and a bit of purple catches my eye. There is Dr. Rice in the Tunze powerhead along with little bits of calamari that was her last meal. Dr. Rice committed suicide. All these years of loving George Bush must have been too much for her. Unrequited love is painfull. So are Tunze Power heads. I am saddened by Dr. Rice's demise. However perhaps this is best for the tank in the long term. I know Condylactis tend to move around a lot and can cause problems with other corals and even eat small fish. I would never have ordered one but she came with the TBS Package. She was very pretty and that is no way to go. I had considered taking her to a LFS if she became a problem but right now I really enjoyed her company in the tank. ![]()
