Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Everything is in the tank.
I have done absolutely no aquascaping. yet.
I think I need to sit with it for a few days.
get to know the rocks in the tank
feel where they belong.
very ZEN.

A couple more pics before I go to bed.
its nearly 2 am and I have to get up in 5 hours
I want to watch the tank all night.

More pics to tide us over until I get home from work tomorrow.
I'll need some help on some IDs but I'll post individual pics then

Wow golden, that looks really good!! Gotta love the extras! It will be very exciting to see what pops up over the next few weeks on your rock.

Congrats, now you can sleep easy knowing that your rock has completed its journey and is now safely at home!

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Sorry I missed all the excitement! That's a good plan to observe the rock for a few days to see where things are. I had a difficult time aquascaping with my TBS rock, because there was so much life on it that I didn't want to cover it up!

I know you just got everything, but I would suggest that you glue the tree sponges to a hard substrate. If you keep it in the sand the base is sure to die and possibly, if not surely, spread to the rest of the sponge.

Congratulations!

Scott - should I just use super glue gel and attach the tree sponges to a large shell frag or some LR rubble. That way I could move them around during aquascaping?

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Yeah, that's what I did. However, it's not easy because it all has to be done underwater, you can't take the sponge out of the water. Also be careful that you don't get glue on the sponge. I think that was the demise of mine. The Super Glue got on my fingers and transfered to some spots on the sponge. Good luck and have fun!

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

I used this method over the weekend to glue the base of one of my "Pulsing Xenias" to a piece of small sea shell. Then I simply used a dab of glue on the shell to place it where I want it for now.

I used Super Glue GEL and made a fairly sizeable "glob" on the shell and merely "pressed" the base into it and mashed it back & forth to spread the glob aroun better. All of this was done totally under the water and it worked perfectly. I would assume this is pretty much what you'll want to do with your spongies

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

Thanks Scott and Al.
I also have some epoxy that I could use. or do you thing the CAREFULL application of super glue gel would be better?

Re: A 55G link in the Golden Chain

The careful application of Super Glue is probably the best. You'll want to just get the glue on the basal plate of the sponge, not on the sides.
