Re: Yes! Everybody who likes new pics of a new tank

You need to research anything before buying it. There are a few different types of serpent stars. Some are not desirable in the reef aquarium. Once you become familiar with that and how to identify them you will find that you can actually keep them in a tank that size.
I am curious if you read up on them and get the right one. I'll give you a hint. The number of tentacles will be how to identify among other markings.

What is that red serpent star? It is really pretty, and my LFS has some in their display nano.

Re: Yes! Everybody who likes new pics of a new tank

Okay! I researched, and I really like that one. I think I will buy it. They are only $7 at my LFS. Another question: When I get my next clownfish, can I have to perculas? Will they become a pair? Are they much harder to take care of than false percs? My LFS has them for the same price as false ($35 for 2), so I want them... up?

If you buy them together, than there is a chance they will become a pair. Just no guarantee.

Nitrates still need to be lower, its not as harmful on fish but invert dont like trates.

Without a refugium for growing macro algae and the infancy of your tank, the only way to get the nitrates down is with frquent water changes.

Re: Yes! Everybody who likes new pics of a new tank

Ok thanks... What about the serpent star that I mentioned. That is okay, right? And it is okay to get true percs instead of false, right? They are so much prettier!

I prefer true percs over false percs, however, some say the true percs are harder on their anemone hosts than the false percs. Can't confirm that.

If this is the serpent star you are talking about, then yes it is reef safe. Remember that these stars get monsterous in size. Like 12-14' from tip to tip.

Okay! I will pick my star up tomorrow! It is like 5" from tip to tip. If it grows way huge, store credit! Also, I am going to get my pair of percs probably next weekend for my sis's birthday. $35 bucks for a pair with a 14 day guaruntee! You can't beat that!

i agree, frequent water changes will do the trick. when you get your skimmer that wil help big time with your nitrates, does not directly remove them but removes the dissolved organics and other stuff that are used up by the bacteria that creates them, cut umm' off at the pass
