Re: Triggerjays new 125g Build thread

Great idea frankie!

So, I did a little water testing today, right before I replaced my Ro/Di filters and DI resin.. Heres the results:
Tap water - 106ppm TDS
Ro/Di Before 2ppm TDS
Ro/Di After filter change 0 Tds

Phosphate on Ro/Di
Before - 0
After - 0

Tank Params:
Temp 78
SG 1.022 <-- a little low.. Skimmed out or salt creep maybe?
Phos - 0
Alk 3.2 Meq/l or 8.96 dKH
Ph 8.4
Ca 425ppm
Mag 1140ppm

Everything water wise looks good for the most part. Think I am ready for the LE SPS corals?

Re: Triggerjays new 125g Build thread

Time for an update.. Long overdue. So a few of you know, I am slowly changing my talk over to SPS dominated. I have a few existing corals I intend to keep, but most of the common stuff is coming out of the tank. I have already removed a couple peices, and placed in Megans tank, and sold a couple others.

So, I was shopping around in the livestock for sale thread on RC. A guy named H@rry had a SPS frag pack for sale, with free shipping. I liked the look of the corals, so I jumped on board and bought a pack. I was able to choose the type of corals from a long list of stuff he had available. This was on Sunday. He shipped my frag pack on monday, and it arrived Tuesday. I could see quality from the moment I opened the box. It was styro lined, and had acclimation instructions right in the top of the box. I followed his acclimation procedure, and gave the frags an iodine dip, and a sea-chem reef dip. The frags are well on their way to encrusting the tile they are mounted to. So, heres some pics of the new frags:

If you want to know the names of any of them, don't hesitate to ask. I have them wrote down, but my list is in the other room.

Re: Triggerjays new 125g Build thread

Later that evening, My Tyree Sunset Monti was also delivered by the guy I bought it from. He gave me a good deal on it at $75.00 for a 1/2" X 1/2" frag. At Atlantis, they go for $100 a frag. Heres a pic of that little guy. He is near the top/back of the tank, so it was hard to get a clear shot, but you get the idea. I can't wait till he grows up:

A also picked these up last week at my LFS. (Thanks Fish!)
Purple Montipora Digi...:

And this little guy:

And here is an AWESOME little frag that Fish, at my LFS GAVE me.. It is the REAL superman monti. Its small now, but will look awesome when it grows out:

Re: Triggerjays new 125g Build thread

Now some of you know I just went through a bad spell with my tank. Some of my SPS RTN'ed, including an acro frag from IMAC 2 years ago that John Kelly gave me, and the green plating monti that Frankie sent me.. and a false superman monti I got from a frag demo about two months ago. Well, I have some good news.. they don't look the best, but they are starting to come back. They all appeared to be completly gone. However, apparently, there was a tiny bit of life left in them, and now they are coming back. heres some pics:
False superman:

John Kelly Acro:

And the plating Monti from Frankie!

So I think I have talked my friend John Kelly into coming over, and helping me gut my tank, get rid of all the mushrooms and GSP, and giving the rocks a good scrub to get rid of some of the HA that you can see in the pics. I don't have very much HA, but it still bothers me. And then re-aquascaping the tank for yet another look. The current rock setup lacks for placement of SPS corals,.. All my Zoanthids are going to hit the sandbed in front of the rocks, My frogspawn will also stay low somewhere in the tank, and the 6 year old goni will have to be moved again. I am also keeping my red blastos, but other than that, pretty much everything else I have, will not be in the tank anymore.. This should give me plenty of room for my new and future SPS purchases. I have however found that it is very difficult to find whole SPS colonies on the internet. Most of the sites just sell frags, although I dont mind having frags, I want a little more to look at in the tank.. So a couple large SPS colonies of some sort are on the shopping list if I can find any.

Thanks for lookin!

Jason

great frags Jason! the good thing about getting frags is that you can watch your tank grow from a baby. IMO it's the most rewarding.

Re: Triggerjays new 125g Build thread

I agree. I still would like to pick up a couple full size colonies, so I have something to look at until things grow out. A 125g full of frags looks kinda empty! lol...

Re: Triggerjays new 125g Build thread

lol, Jojo.. Now it really looks empty! I tore my tank all apart today, removed all the rock and scraped all the shrooms & GSP off. So what not a better time to re-aquascape?
