Could it be motile camolflage, a less threatening appearance, like A robin faking a broken wing to draw predators away from a nest?

Re: My new 75 gal. Upgrade

I have been using my camera at work, so I do not have any new pictures.

One of my Carpenter's Flasher Wrasses disappeared. I do not know if it dies in the tank, or if it jumped out. If it jumped, it is possible that a cat got it.

I also got a tuxedo urchin a few weeks back. He is covered in zoa polyps. Some of the zoas have overgrown their rocks, and they have started shedding polyps. The urchin has found them, and it is nicely camouflaged. I really need to put in a tray or something to try to get some of these lose polyps on rocks. Fragging made easy.

Way coolio about the urchin. Bummer on the flasher, they are notorious jumpers!

Re: My new 75 gal. Upgrade

I have what I thought was a good cover, because I had lost others to jumping in the past. It is eggcrate covered with window screen. However, the HOB skimmer and HOB fuge make it hard to get perfect coverage in the bag. I guess I need to figure out a way to improve that, to make sure it does not happen again.

Re: My new 75 gal. Upgrade

Thanks.

I have two Tunze Turbelle Nanostreams. I forget the model. The Hydor Koralia powerheads are similar and cheaper, if I am not mistaken. I also get water movement from the overflow return.

I have a Aqua C Remora HOB skimmer. I also have a CPR HOB refugium. If I was starting fresh, I would have the skimmer and fuge in the sump, with nothing hanging on the back.

I run carbon, roughly 1 week out of four. I put it in the first compartment of the fuge. I run a Phosban reactor, changing the media when I notice an increase in algae on the sand.

I do not run a filter sock, or any other sort of mechanical filter.

Re: My new 75 gal. Upgrade

I lost another flasher wrasse yesterday. That makes me think it is more likely the missing one died in the tank. I have not seen any signs of distress in any of the fish. I was not home much last night, so I have not had a chance to check my parameters.

Re: My new 75 gal. Upgrade

My last flasher wrasse has died. I have not figured out why. They were all fully grown when I got them, so I am wondering if age could have been a factor. All of the other fish seem to be doing fine.

Here are some new pictures. I am really proud of some of these. I finally read the manual for my camera and figured out how to do a few things in manual mode.

Re: My new 75 gal. Upgrade

I have had the 75 gallon set up for over a year now. Here is a recent FTS.

Here is the picture from a year ago, earlier in the thread, for comparison.

Re: My new 75 gal. Upgrade

After having them together for nearly three years, my clownfish recently decided to host in the anemone. I had assumed it was not going to happen, since it had been so long, but I found her in there the other day. I do not have any pics yet. She tends to leave the anemone if she knows she is being watched.

Also, I will be getting a copper banded butterfly soon. I am just looking for a good specimen nearby. The closest LFS has one, but it is in bad shape.

Re: My new 75 gal. Upgrade

Thanks for the compliments.

I have considered trying to get into SPS, but I would have to step up my maintenance a bit. Right now, I do not have any heavy calcium consuming organisms, so I have I get a little behind in my dosing, it is not such a big deal. Right now, I dose 2-part almost every other day, and test once every week or two. For now, I will stick with my laziness.

Whenever I get to upgrade (which will be a couple of years) to a monster tank, it will definitely be planned with SPS in mind.
