Re: Lynn's 20g clown tank.

Well these clowns are very interresting.
Day one with the anemone the "female" (I think) was snuggled in the anemone and looked just as happy as could be. The male (I think) was exiled to the other side of the tank but she wasn't picking on him so I just sat back and watched. He wasn't allowed near the nem but was left alone in the rest of the tank.
Day two with the nem. Male clown all snuggled inside and the female exiled to the other side of the tank. They are still pretty small so they may still be working out who is male and who is female. Meanwhile it will be interresting to see who if anyone is in the anemone tonight.
Pics as soon as I can get some decent ones. Clownfish are really fast.

Re: Lynn's 20g clown tank.

Very nice thread Lynn! Sorry I wasn't around for the unveiling and christening! I too love that Wrasse, I just wish that it would stay the junvenile color, that's stunning!

Have you had a name the clown contest yet?

BTW, my Remora started producing foam right away. Perhaps I had a lot of gunk in the water. It's a great little skimmer!

Re: Lynn's 20g clown tank.

I agree on the Remora. It started producing some skimmate after about 24hrs. More and more as it gets broken in and I add bio-load.
No name the clown contest yet. I want to make sure they pair off first so I know they will be staying. Then we can name the adorable little clownies. They are so much fun to watch. I have to admit I am having lots of fun watching this tank. I think it is because there is relatively little in it so I have lots of time to look at an individual fish etc. In the reef there is so much going on it is harder to track one fish.
I am really enjoying this little tank. I hope it continues to do well for me.
I am really enjoying it anyway, The anemone is just spectacular as well. I am trying to get Frank to take some pics since his are so much better than mine. Hopefully this weekend I will have some good ones to post. If I am really really lucky maybe both clowns will be in the anemone by then and you can see them all snugggled up.
Do have a little story though. When I cam home last night after looking at the reef I went to the clown tank. Quickly spotted the male in the anemone so I started to look for the female. Man she was hiding good. But while we were looking and trying to figure out if there were any openings she may have jumped out of etc one of the kids piped up with "maybe the anemone ate her". After stifling my laughter I calmly told her that was not the way it works the anemone could eat another fish but they don't eat the clowns. Put some food in the tank and of course she came out of hiding for the extra snack so all is well.
Sorry, I just thought it was funny.

Re: Lynn's 20g clown tank.

Lynn, when you get the wrasse moved, you should try some of the sexy shrimp in your anemone tank. They are cool. All 4 of mine are still around. They have paired up, two of them with the carpet, the other two with my RBTA. It is cool and they are always where you can find them. Kids love looking in the tank for them too!

Re: Lynn's 20g clown tank.

I really gotta read up on them some. They like the anemones? Hmm. I was thinking I might put some in the pony tank, but the clown tank would be cool as well. Gotta move the wrasse and get rid of the flameback first though.

Right now the kids have a full time job finding the sea hare. That thing goes everywhere and is great at disappearing.

Re: Lynn's 20g clown tank.

I'm not sure if jawfish are compatible with the shrimp (don't know why, just read it someplace). But, looking back I probably wouldn't have put them in the tank with the Pyle wrasse if I had thought about it much and they seem to do just fine with them. I think the wrasse you have is more of a hunter than the Pyle wrasse is (anyway the one I had like it hunted all the time).

Re: Lynn's 20g clown tank.

Well if I were to get them it would likely be for the pony tank. In the clown tank I have not ony the wrasse to worry about but my RBTA would probably like a nice snack as well.
Too many gorgeous animals. Not enough tanks. Guess I need a nice little nano for the shrimp.
Wait if I get the pony tank I want then the sexy shrimp can have the 24.

Looks awesome Lynn! It looks like everything will mature nicely.

Hide your snails from the Coris Wrasse! As adluts they will jerk the snails out of their shells and gulp them down. My yellow wrasse ate numerous snails in my tank.

Re: Lynn's 20g clown tank.

Hmm that is a bit worrysome. Not for now since he is small but I was planning to move him to the reef when he gets a bit bigger. I took out the hermits because they killed my snails. Not sure I want a snail killing wrasse in their either. I'll have to do some more research on that one since hubby really loves the wrasse.
