Re: Jens reef house

Pease do lots of research on the ponies first. Look here in the seahorse/pipefish forum and at seahorse.org.
Just to get you started with a few facts, they need a species only tank and need much cooler water than we normally have in our reefs. I have tried to keep them several times so far with no long term success. Read a lot before buyind and always buy captivr bred.
If you need more info I will be happy to share what I have learned. Mostly I have learned what not to do but that uas a vallue as well. At least you can avoid my mistakes.

Re: Jens reef house

ok some up dates finallymy lord has any1 ever drilled a hole in glass before. i had to drill four 1 1/2 holes for the 1 inch bulk heads i have installed to connect the tanks. I set the tank heights at the same level so when all pumps are off thay just level off.The pump that is responsible for water exchange between the 2 tanks is set to low to help prevent an overflow. I figured on low there would be less of a chance of the return strainer getting to clogged and causing a catastrophy. Soon to get 4 to 5 inches of sand in the 14 gallon with a bunch of macro alge another manderin and sea horses. I pulled out my bio balls in the 30 gallon moved my already once modded skimmer back to its oem construction and installed the pump in compartment 2 and it dumps back to compartment 1. the bottem skimmer on the 30 and soon also on the 14 have been almost sealed off by rock rubble.

mod still to be made
1 upgrade lighting from nanotuners
2 build a stand to hold both systems with an additional tank underneath them connected like a sump but viewed as a regular tank.actually not to hard considering i allready cut the holes in the cubes. oh yah dont tell my fieance this i just got them connected no i am allready ready for another tank . I dont think she can handle it>

Re: Jens reef house

Be careful with the ponies. They really need special care including very cool water 72-76. They are also very messy with all the leftover food so I would not consider it a fuge if it has ponies. Check out our seahorse forum and seahorse.org before getting them so you understand the speciaql requirements,

Beautiful tank! You should have entered it in the full-tank photo contest for July!
