Thank you for taking the time to read my chronicle and for your nice compliments!

Yes, please keep trying even when it seems like everything is going wrong. The rewards are well worth it.

Thank you thank you!

Thanks hma!

Puke Aloyisius was out and about trolling the tank. The peppermints just LOVE him. They climb all over him. He needs to get moving on the hair algae.

Hey Mel. No need to save the salt for me. If you decide to switch back then use it up.
As to the gorg, the parent colony is just stuck in the crushed coral substrate but I have frags in the sand and stuck into holes in the rock. You can also super glue it to a small piece of LR to weigh it down a bit. I have done that with one or two.
And finally what you have been asking for. Pics of the parents.

Yeah Lynn!! Thank you for the photos!

I really need to find a good way to keep my gorg upright. I guess it will be trial and error and error and error. Ha ha ha. Bad thing is, when he falls over, he irritates whatever coral he falls on. My yellow fiji leather took three days to recover.

Re: Here We Go Again!

That Sea hare is the bomb. It should take care of any green hair that dares to be in your tank! That emerald looks like a gentle creature with little balls on the ends of its pincers. Great color too!

Re: Here We Go Again!

Hi Scott! Yes, that huge emerald has been a model citizen in my reef. He constantly picks at invisible algae (why doesn't he like the hairy stuff??) He never bothers my corals, fish or inverts.

Today is reef recap day. I haven't cleaned my tank in 3 weeks. Uh oh. Can I say in advance "Melanie, you really need to do something about that hair algae before it takes over." There, I saved you all a few comments! ha ha ha.

I see the sea hair puffing "stuff" (poo?) out of a hole in his back. I'm guessing based on his enormous size, I can get no more fish until he's gone. He probably adds a TON to my bioload. Puke Aloysius wasn't moving early today so I poked him to make sure he wasn't dead. He wasn't.

Re: Here We Go Again!

November 2007 Re-cap

Because of a great idea by AQTJAK, I began a monthly recap of my reef chronicle. I update my signature to bring you right to the latest recap to save you from having to read through many pages. If you’d like more information and LOTS of photos, feel free to start at the beginning. If you’ve been following along from the start, hopefully you’ll enjoy the update as well.

It was my luck to find RS when I decided to start a reef tank. With the coaching of these friendly reefers, I began the transformation you see here. There were a few bumps in the road, including a tank crash, a flood, two near electrocutions, and a zoanthid poisoning, but it has been worth every minute of it.

7/23/07 - The Crash

7/30/07 - A New Beginning

8/21/07

9/23/07

10/21/07

11/25/07 - Today

Livestock
My tank is primarily soft corals with a few large polyp stony (LPS) corals and two small polyp stony (SPS). My fish stocking plan has been modified quite a bit since I began my reef, but one thing has stayed consistent - I want a peaceful community of reef-safe fish with an emphasis on mobile invertebrates. I’ve attempted to adhere to the rule of 1” of fish per 5 gallons of water in order to maintain good water quality.

Photography
All photos were taken by me with a Sony Cybershot.

Re: Here We Go Again!

Bad news.....look what I found under my tank in the stand.

The weird thing is, I had the canopy off for the last three weeks and just put it on yesterday. When the canopy is on, there is not much room for him to jump out. He found the little space.

RIP Firefish

Re: Here We Go Again!

Puke Aloysius (my sea hare) died. I came home from work and he had snails on him. I did the sniff test and sure enough he was dead. I guess I was lucky he didn't poison the tank because everyone else looks great. There was a little cyano outbreak on the front glass and I'm guessing it had something to do with Puke's death.
