Re: Here We Go Again!

Great report Mel! The little sea stars are an indicator of good tank health and nothing to worry about.

Re: Here We Go Again!

So, I had an idea. Since there was really nothing new to photograph, I thought I'd try a new ANGLE!

I turned off all of the pumps and took all of these photos from above. Some are interesting, some are beautiful, and some are not so great.

Enjoy!

Powder blue brain (my name for it)

Green Star Polyps (My favorite of these photos!)

My zoa rock

My Xenia

Flourescent green brain (my name)

The frag shroom ric zoa hair algae rock

A free frag of something?? Palyothoas or something like that?

Yellow colony polyps. These look much better from the front. (Color enhanced.)

Neon green ric. I really like this pic. You can really see it splitting.

Torch...ehhh so-so.

Fiji Leather, this angle makes me dizzy for some reason

Supposedly blue xenia but I sure don't see much blue.

Shroom village. I like this shot, but it makes me woozy.

Re: Here We Go Again!

Thanks you guys for the really nice feedback! I don't have to tell you how much fun a new camera and developing reef tank can be.

I had a nightmare that clownie died. I dreamt that I woke up and clownie (and another clown?) were dead on the bottom of my tank. I bolted awake and he is still alive and kicking.

My husband is so sweet! Last night he asked when my LFS was having their grand opening. I said "I don't know! They've been open for a few months and still nothing." He was a little tipsy and started laughing. He said "I was gonna go in and BUY you the nano you are just dying to win and have them tell you that you won it. You just want that nano so bad." I started laughing and said "How do you know I want to win the nano???" He said "You've been telling me constantly for 2 months." ha ha ha ha. I guess I just didn't even realize it. I told him he can't do it now because I would know!

It's weird because I don't really need or want another tank, but it would be so cool to WIN one! I even have it planned out!

Oh, and hubby told me that his very favorite thing in my tank is my coral banded shrimp. He said he gets up in the night and the CBS is crawling around and "hugging that bubbler thingy." He means the Koralia which doesn't bubble at all. So much for catching CBS and taking him out!

Re: Here We Go Again!

Great pics Melanie
No way can you get rid of the shrimp if your hubby likes it! That's nice that he is enjoying your reef with you.
Best of luck winning the nano tank

Re: Here We Go Again!

Update on Mg:

I tested my Mg at 7:00 AM this morning and was pleasantly surprised to see it was now 1260. It came up a respectable amount, but did not exceed 100 ppm. I added 20 g. more of the Mg supplement and I will test again tomorrow.

Question, I am perusing the Drs. Foster and Smith catalog and I see there are a few combo phosban/carbon type products. Does anyone else use these?

Due to the small hair algae and slight cyano bloom, I was considering adding a phosban reactor. Once I saw the combo products, I thought it would save space and money if I used one of those in my carbon reactor.

Since I haven't shown any detectable amounts of phosphates, I believe they are quite low so perhaps the combo product will be enough to knock out whatever minute amount I have. What do you all think?

Rhetorical Question: What is UP with my inverts that they ignore all problem algae? Spoiled little punks....they need to get off their butts and be the CUC they are supposed to be darn it!

Re: Here We Go Again!

How cool that hubby is enjoying the hobby with you. Why do they always pick the animal you wanted to get rid of as their favorite? I am pretty sure my husband's chevron tang is responsible for some of my problems with lps but of course that is his fish so I have to keep him. I have had to give up on my favorite corals but hubby is happy so oh well.
I've never even heard of the combo products. Sounds interresting. I'll be reading to see what other's say about it.
