emj...thank you so much for your kind words! I agree that this is a great site with kind and wonderful people. Without them, I would never have had the successes I've had so far.

Re: Here We Go Again!

Check out my story about Dentoid here.

Today was tank maintenance day. I am getting faster and faster. I noticed it really cut my time down when I removed the wet/dry (w/LR) section. I don't get the detritus gunk in the sump now. That was a pain to remove.

Here are today's test results at 6 PM:
SG 1.0265 (guess lowering it is going REALLY slowly)
Temp 78
Mag 1300
Ph 8.3
Ca 460 (woo hoo! the snow storm is almost gone!)
Nitrate 0
Amon 0
Phos 0
Nitrite 0
dKH 9/161.1 ppm KH

Everything is getting very close to perfection!

Because I know you guys love photos, what's my weekly update without one?

Here is the coral I bought today. It's flourescent white/orange. Beautiful! I've been eyeing it at the LFS for weeks!!

Re: Here We Go Again!

Thanks guys! The LFS told me it is a "brain." I love those guys but seriously I research everything I buy there to find out what it is. I have never seen this coral before. Would love to here what you all think it is.

It has 4 or 5 mouths (?) and it stays open like that all the time. My LED moonlights don't light up the area he is in so I can't tell what he looks like at night. It looks like it's receeding a little in the lower left corner because I can see the skeleton. I saw that when I bought it. I got it sort-of discounted ($60) so I'm hoping that with good care, he will fill back out.

I may try to feed it a piece of krill or silversides sometime this week to see if it's interested. I haven't directly fed any of my corals yet and they all appear to be doing well (knock on wood) but this one has very obvious large mouths (I think that's what they are.)

I welcome any and all advice on this baby! Off to research.

Re: Here We Go Again!

Heinz, thanks for helping me try to figure out what this is exactly. What about it's unusual horseshoe shape? I look at your suggestion and I think it's a little different. I'm going to post a identification thread as well.

Re: Here We Go Again!

It looks like you might have 4 little brains soon! Or does it just colonize like that?

Interesting coral! it does look like a brain but fleshy bits are odd, Im wondering if it would be better off on the sand bed?

I don't know.... maybe... I put it up high because I only have T5 lighting (3 wts. per gallon) and I am thinking it is at least somewhat photosynthetic. I would be thrilled if I could find that EXACT specimen with an identification somewhere.

Re: Here We Go Again!

I have a pearl bubble coral (Physogyra) that looks a lot like that. I've always kept it high in my tank and fed it cyclopeeze once/week. It does really well when I can keep the other critters from picking at it, but my CBS and scarlet hermits love foraging off of it after a feeding. It has lost a lot of flesh by that route, and now my CBS is back with the LFS and my hermits are in the sump.

Re: Here We Go Again!

Kodiak, I have a CBS too! I call him the evil one, but right now he's behaving himself. We'll see....
