| Golden Moray | Re: Here We Go Again! It should be a 5 star thread. It covers everything from the time you were just starting to your making the right choices and learning the importance of proper water chemistry. You've come a long way in a very short time and your thread details every step in the process. I would recommend it for anyone beginning in the hobby. It can help them make the right choices and answer many questions that folks just starting in the hobby have. |

| Golden Moray | Re: Here We Go Again! Thanks Dr. Hank! I think I have covered nearly every topic for beginners (besides fish selection.) he he he. They can learn from my mistakes! Well, perhaps I was overly abitious today. I didn't get the new powerhead or LEDs hooked up yet. I DID get the ATO unit hooked up with only a few missteps. I also got the carbon reactor back up and running and I cleaned my skimmer & sump and mixed up my water for tomorrow. I also calibrated my refractometer and have been using it today to check out my water. VERY cool device. Ok, back to work..... |

| Golden Moray | Re: Here We Go Again! Done! Yeah!! PH is hooked up and lunar light is done. I even managed to find time to do my water change in my QT. Now I can finally relax. Whew. |

| Golden Moray | Re: Here We Go Again! No. I used DI water per the calibration instructions. I had to put my AC down to freezing so I could get the room and water 68 degrees. It is auto temperature adjusting after calibration. What kind of solution did you use? |

| Golden Moray | Re: Here We Go Again! I hope the refractometers scale am alike in the USA and Europe? It is also importantly to it to pay attention if one refractometer uses only the PSU (Salinity) values to use. The indicated values for density are unfortunately inaccurate with most refractometers. Unfortunately the Scala for density is still built in the refractometers. Density cannot measure a refractometer however, only PSU. I agree to Doc, calibration ONLY with calibration solution

| Golden Moray | Re: Here We Go Again! Calibration solution = Distilled water in RO/Di water remain always remainder from salts (up to 25%) therefore I use always distilled water to calibrate.

| Golden Moray | Re: Here We Go Again! tbittner - No, a refractometer. hma - I'm confused by your post? Dr. Hank, just did a google search and can't find refractometer calibration solution except for sugar solution for juices. Do you have a link? I still have my hydrometer as well. |

| Golden Moray | Re: Here We Go Again! upps ... sorry Melanie. it should not be bought however with a gas station or in the supermarket. There are very large differences also with distilled water. I use only distilled water from a pharmacy.
