Re: 50g FOWLR Setup

Well here is a little update on the last two days.

Yesterday I went to the LFS and got these little pretty green polyps. However when I got them home they arent as pretty. Maybe because I have PC's and the LFS had them under MH?? Maybe its because my PC's need new bulbs, I have never switched out the bulbs before.

Today I took in Herbert my black damsel and got a new fish. It is a little black and white clown fish. I dont know what kind. The LFS had written ocelleris tank bred on there. I think its a misbar since his middle bar isnt complete. Sorry for the crappy pics my tank is really clowdy from my maintenance so tomorrow I will have better pictures.

Re: 50g FOWLR Setup

he's a cutie!!! Yeah, he's not a BW saddle... the a. polymnus are more brown than actually black and have a little different body shape. Keep fishing for an ID on him, I'm curious too!!

Thanks for the link Jason, I checked it out and it seems that others are calling them Black & White Ocellaris. Thats also what the fish store had them labeled as.

My only problem now is that he wont eat. I tried to feed him mysis and brine. I thought it might be ebcause he was scarred of the turkey baster (which he is) but as soon as the food comes flying out he doesnt go after it at all. If he doesnt eat by tonight I might remove him and set-up like a 10gallon tank or something???

Re: 50g FOWLR Setup

Well I tried a pellet just now. First one got caught in the current and the cardinal got it. Second one was a direct hit. He put it in his mouth, spit it out, back in the mouth, spit it out, back in then out, didnt end up eating it. But at least it went in his mouth. Little wierdo is just messin with me I think!!

Re: 50g FOWLR Setup

Devastation has struck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I woke up this mornning and turned on the lights. No clown fish. Checked his favorite spots..no fish...checked the carpet...no fish...checked the protein skimmer pump....little fishy head sticking out..lifeless.

I was so devistated. I couldnt even eat breakfast I was so upset. Even when I took my mother out to lunch today for her birthday I couldnt eat. I am so upset at myself. I havent had a problem before with fish goin in the pump and I figured I shouldnt put the guard on it because they nothing would get sucked into it since the guards grates are so small....

If he would have jumped out or just died from not eating it would have been different but this was such a bad death. I turned of the pump and dropped him into my hand to wash him off and he fell down into the garbage disposal!!! It just got worse and worse. Poor little guy. Not to mention he was my most expensive fish at $30 not that I really care, he was well worth it. I mean no one even got to see him yet since everyone but me was gone fore the weekend. Jeez what a lame day.

Re: 50g FOWLR Setup

Just catching up and I see this! I'm so sorry for your loss CMG. It's hard to take these losses.

On a more cheerful note, I like what you have done with the tank and enjoyed seeing all the pictures.

All the best!

Re: 50g FOWLR Setup

Thank you for the kind words, I feel kinda silly being depressed about a fish but if you think about it they are our pets just like a dog or cat. So if the cat or dog was to get hit by a car I dont see any real difference. Anyways, its mostly bad because it was my own fault for not covering the pump and that hurts the most. Hopefully things will move on quickly and I can get another one, I really do like those little blacka nd white guys. I have a feeling I will find a randals goby before another B&W clown though.

Re: 50g FOWLR Setup

CMG, So sorry for your loss. The same thing happened to my clown, except he went overflow surfing and ended up in the return pump. It's hard losing fish, just as hard as any other pet. They have personalities which endear them to us so much.
