Re: STT to VT

Hey Al!

It's a Green Nephthea - Really neither the picture of my tank or the one on the NEC site do it any justice!

I should probably get a real photographer to do some photos for the site, I'm sure that would help!

Re: STT to VT

haha no bat-anything here, just summer time!

Speaking of summer it has been 90+ here for almost a week. My tank has been running up to 88+ degrees during the day. My corals seem fine with the exception of the duncan which seems to close up in the evening - typically this guy is open all the time.

I've got two fans running on the tank and just cannot keep it down. The room the tank is in is very large and has no windows (only big sliding glass doors) so A/C is not an option.

I did some research and purchased a chiller. OUCH.

It’s a Prime In-line Tower Chiller 1/3 HP. 4150 BTU. Dr Foster has them on sale right now.

In the mean time I’ve turned the MH light off totally. I’ll check the temp again this evening and see if it does better with just the two VHO’s.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: STT to VT

Glad to see you back.
It's raining here. Does that count.
Those are some major temps. Good for you with the chiller. That should help a lot.

Re: STT to VT

Just spent about an hour scrubbing coralline algae off my glass. It is REALLY tough with a bow front since the scrapers only work in a horizontal direction.

Anyone with a bow front have some tricks to keeping the curved glass clean or an easier way to get the coraline off? 45 min every other week is a huge time commitment for just that one aspect of the tank!

Al - Life is good buddy! Expect to see more of me, I'm getting caught up on all the chronicles I follow - and you are on the list my friend!

Lynn - Hey! I'm excited to get caught back up with everyone. The chiller was a major decision and investment. I hope it lasts at least a few years. Summers are short here, so I'll clean it well and pack it away during the fall, winter, spring.

Go sideways!

Can you screw a credit card to a mag float and go left to right?

I'm praying for rain right now.
PLUS it will help with your temps. But mainly for the pics.

They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Re: STT to VT

Well I don't know what rain dance you were doing but wow did it work!

Vermont had TORNADO and sever thunderstorm warnings today/tonight.

The worst is over now and the temps have come down from mid 90's to high 70s now.

The sad part is no photos because my lights have been off all day to keep the temp down and all my corals are closed up or looking dull.

So... Thanks for the cool weather! I'll get some photos once the sun on the tank is back out.

Drew
