| Elegance coral | Re: STT to VT quick update: a cirolanid isopod attached to the foxface yesterday afternoon. This one was stressing him. I tried to catch the fish, so I could remove the isopod but the fish is very smart and very fast. This morning the isopod was gone and fish is back to normal. I fed him extra. I'll resume my hunt tonight. Drew |

| Beautiful Katamari | Re: STT to VT I saw a Cirolanid in my tank last night too. With a flashlight I saw the little isopod land on my new chalice coral. He stayed there for a few minutes and I was going to try to siphon him out with a turkey baster but the second my hand hit the water he swam off. I have been running the filter sock in my sump mainly to catch these parasites. I haven't tried making a trap for them yet.

| Elegance coral | Re: STT to VT I've failed with 4 revisions of a trap. I don't believe the cirolanid isopod's I've got are scavengers as they do not seem attracted in anyway to baited traps. I'm able to catch both of my shrimp, snails, crabs but not the isopods. Hopefully yours are the same golden, and you can starve them out! |

| Beautiful Katamari | Re: STT to VT Have you tried suspending the trap in the water column? Thats is what I was thinking of. Hang it from the top of the tank using some fishing line. That way you would not be catching your CUC and the cirolanid find the fish in the water column.

| Golden Moray | Re: STT to VT Drew, those isopods just won't leave you alone darn it! Maybe your next fish can be the kind that eat isopods. Don't know what that is, but I bet there are some that hunt them. |

| Elegance coral | Re: STT to VT Last night the situation went from bad to really bad. I went to clean my glass using the magnetic cleaner but wanted to check it for sand prior to dragging it across the glass. I tilted the outside magnet so I could see if there were any grains stuck on the inside and found two cirolanid isopods instead. I managed to kill both of them. I also killed 4 more with a new trick - they are attracted to light. Put a flash light up to the glass and within a minute one will swim up to the glass. I then crushed them with my long scraper. The cirolanid isopods are reproducing in my tank. Drew |

| Beautiful Katamari | Re: STT to VT The flash light trick is good to know. You can net them out after the come to the light. Keep at them. You got 6 last night. That is very good!

| Over Achiever | Re: STT to VT OMG! At least you have found a way to get them. Are you sure they are reproducing or just ones that were there to begin with. If they are reproducing, I'm sure you can find a wrasse that will hunt and consume the baby isopods as Melanie has suggested. |

| Elegance coral | Re: STT to VT Dentoid - I'm not certain they are reproducing. Just guessing because of the huge increase in numbers. I've used a flashlight to search for them before and never had the turn out I did last night Tipp and Golden - Thanks guys, I'll keep fighting them, after watching literally thousands of small critters crawling on the glass of my tank I can't help but think that some of them are bad, its a bit daunting. Good news is foxface is happy, eating, and more personable than ever. I gave him some red grape kelp and some Caulerpa, he was very excited. Drew |

| Over Achiever | Re: STT to VT Drew, I was just thinking why the isopods in my tank didn't take over and I remembered that I had a six line wrasse early on in my tanks history. I added it about 3 months after setting it up. It may have decimated their population in my tank. I know I had them them because I would find them dead on my skimmer output foam filter. Jack has the answer with the six line. I'd stay away from the cleaner wrasse (no offense Jack) but they do not do well in captivity and should be left in the ocean where their services are needed. In fact I believe it is illegal to collect these fish in Hawaii, but they do come from other places. I just saw two in my LFS store and I gave the owner a little grief about stocking them. I would strongly urge you to not support the sale and trade of the cleaner wrasse. |
