It's ALL gotta go!! Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change. Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian) This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%. | Golden Moray | Re: DrHank's Tank's Well, I finally got the big tank back and finished reinforcing the crossbraces. ![]() I don't think that they will seperate again. I also had the tank drilled for internal overflows. Here is how they look. ![]() I had four holes drilled and will be using three bulkheads for overflow and the fourth for a tank return. If I decide I want a bigger pump later, I'll use all four for overflow and set up a manifold return. Hopefully by the time the weekend is over the big tank will be up and running again. |

| Golden Moray | Re: DrHank's Tank's It's finally back up ![]() No more single stand pipe for the drain. This is the left side where the stand pipe used to be. ![]() Now you can see the return and one of the three overflows. This is the center section. ![]() All three overflows at the top. Sorry forgot to remove the nori clip. And finally the right end. ![]() Complete with a Korallia pump #3. I don't know who is happier, me, my wife, or the critters. I think that we are all glad to see this project completed. Now I get to move on to my winter project (the 155 gallon bowfront). I can hardly wait to get started. Now we each get a tank. Somehow, I think that I'll be the one who gets to maintain both of them. Should be a lot of fun though. |

| Golden Moray | Re: DrHank's Tank's Looking really good Doc. I like your tank, especial the mix of soft and sps/lps corals.

| Social Darwinism victim | Re: DrHank's Tank's That looks awesome!! I'm glad you got rid of that pipe thing, I remember you not liking it. Looks like the foxface is doing well, he got himself in two of the tank shots. And is that a frogspawn or a hammer in the pic of the left side?

| Golden Moray | Re: DrHank's Tank's Thanks Kathy. Since it had to get torn down and go to the glass shop, I had them drill 4 holes for bulkheads. I used 3 for overflow and eliminated the large standpipe. I agree, it looks much better. Heinz, no, I've never used ozone. I did use UV for a time when I had a nuisance algae and cyano problem. Now I just skimm like mad and use carbon. Plus I do routine water changes and don't feed too much. |
