Re: Kirblit's 125

Are we looking at the same thing? I'm looking at the bright blue specks in the photo. In the photo that Non_photsynth posted the algae is purple.

Re: Kirblit's 125

yeah, it's kind of a violet/blue, I guess I will have to wait for it to grow a little more to get a better pic. Your looking at the right thing.

I was planning on going with a Tank your Size do you big the Canopy that large for a reason or do you think a much smaller canopy could work? I plan on doing a similar lighting setup like you have.

Re: Kirblit's 125

I made my canopy 19 inches tall, 16 inches on the inside for moving lights up and down, and the back is open. The reason I made it so large is because the MH create so much heat and I wanted to be able to use them without incorporating a chiller. It works great so far and have seen a couple 90 degree days without any problems. The temp stays about 78.6-79.5 and if it gets to 79.6 I have two 6" clip fans that my ReefKeeper II kicks on to help cool it down, and I have two IceCap 4" fans in the sides of the canopy blowing in when the MH are on to keep air circ good.

Nice work Kirby! I just caught up on your thread. I like your aquascaping work and your fish list looks great. The bicolor and watchman are adorable! Super animated fish with great personalities.

..I wonder what ate your raw shrimp. A starfish could have digested it inside the mesh bag. Keep an eye out for hitchikers that move

Re: Kirblit's 125

Thanks Doni, I have been looking out for any hitchikers and havn't seen any others than a mini brittle, small star (astrea I think it's called), a couple of corals, an aiptaisa that I already took care of, and a couple of random snails that I have put in the sump. Trying to battle all the algae right now, siphon, pull out, water change, etc......, keeping busy. I'm only running the halides about 4 hours a day right now to keep it minimal. The bicolor and hermits are doing a pretty good job, and I have been running 24/7 on the fuge. Corralline is starting to take over now though , I'll have to post updated pick tomarrow.

Re: Kirblit's 125

Full tank shot

Corralline is starting to really get going finally so that the algae isn't so bad anymore. And the 7 Turbo snails and 30 Astreas are helping as well. I will return the 7 bulldozers when their job is complete.

Here is also a pic of the Pod Piles that I made for my fuge that can be moved to and from tank for when I get a mandarin in about 10 months, lots of pods starting to show up all over the glass and on the rocks. The Chaeto that I have in there has also doubled in size in about a week since this pic, I have been running the fuge lights 24/7.

Re: Kirblit's 125

I also picked up this guy the other day, he looks really cool in this picture right after I got him, about 10 minutes later he looked like a normal Midas again, but he does change colors sometimes when he is in his hole, and he does really blend in when he does. He's really active and draws out the Bicolor (their buds).

I also put in the first non hitchiker corals.

Re: Kirblit's 125

I noticed a pretty big colony of what looks to be Favia of some kind that has servived the cycle and is on one of the pieces of live rock that I got. I can't really get a good pic of it though. It is kind of a light green at the moment but I hope that it will color up further. I will try to get a pic if I can at some point, but you really can't make it out very well because it's small (about the size of a quarter) and it just kind of blends in.

Re: Kirblit's 125

I moved over all of the other corals from my Aquapod today (Toadstool, Pipe Organ, Rhodactus, and Gorgonians). I also moved my two false percs over as well any needless to say they are very happy in their GIANT new home. The only bad thing that happend was when I was breaking off the part off the Pipe Organ that I could take I got nailed by a Bristleworm . This is the second time that I have had this happen, and it sucked as always. Just reminds me of getting fiberglass particles on myself or the "invisible" sliver that is impossible to find! I will try to post some pics of the corals when they open up tomorrow.

Re: Kirblit's 125

I haven't posted in a while on my tank so here is some updates. I got a Kole Tang (Kole Train), a Clown Tang (Pun Tang), and a Klaushwitz Blenny (Klaus) in the last month or so. I wasn't going to get the clown tang originally but him and the Kole were in the same tank and they hung out all the time. Here are some pics:
