Re: Kirblit's 125

My tank cycled in 3 weeks and the ammonia never surpassed 1ppm. With that amount of LR it's not surprising that your cycle was short. It appears that your cycle is over-congratulations!

It certainly wouldn't hurt to add another shrimp as long as you have no livestock in the tank. I would probably do it to make sure I got a nice strong cycle.

Re: Kirblit's 125

Well just an update, I have finally finished scaping my rockwork, and I put in about 10 nass snails from my 12g (as I have literally hundreds in there, I love them, they breed like crazy) to start cleaning up and to make sure everything is ok before adding hermits and maybe a fish in a couple of days. I got the PH up, did 30g water change, and everything is holding steady and the snails have been out at night cleaning.

Here is another picture of some sort of hitchiker:

it's the red fuzzy thing next to the bump in the rock. It has been on there since I got my rock, it looks kind of like algae but it's really fuzzy, has branches, and I'm not sure what it is.

Re: Kirblit's 125

I have also determined my fish list so far as to what I plan on adding in the future. Here are the fish, and the order I plan on adding them, any advice would be appreciated on this guys.

Maybe a Firefish, don't know yet
Clown Gobies (2)
Bicolor Blenny &/or Midas Blenny
Tail Spot Blenny
Two False Percs from 12g
Yellow Watchman
Tail Spot Blenny
Neon Gobies
Six Line Wrasse (heard they can be kind of territorial)
Kole Tang
Lyretail Anthias ( 1 male, 2 female)

And maybe another Tang, something small like the Kole, I saw a Lieutenant Tang anyone have any experience with one of these? Does anyone have any suggestions that would be good? I don't want a Zebramasoma because they get to big, and I don't want them to be cramped, and I don't know what other "body" style to get that would be ok to have.

And def a Mandarin 10-12 months down the road. I love these fish.

Does this look good to you all?

Re: Kirblit's 125

I just noticed some red algae starting to grow on the rocks, ahhh a good sign that everything is moving along. Now to get some hermits, and snails to keep it from growing too much.

Re: Kirblit's 125

Nice job Kirby! Personally, I tend not to get fish that can fit through the notches in the overflow (ie. Neon goby). It will almost certainly end up in your overflow. If you are set on having them, then I would suggest some sort of mesh over the notches. Nice aquascaping!

Re: Kirblit's 125

Thanks for the advice Scott, I didn't even think about that . I think I will hold off on the Neon Gobies. I don't really want to have to fish those little guys out all the time even though I do have filter socks so they couldn't get too far.

Re: Kirblit's 125

Ok here is an update, I have my fuge up and running now and I put in some Chaeto a coulple of days ago. Starting to get my diatom bloom, and have been also seeing quite a bit of bubble algae that I have been siphoning out daily. I also got my Phosban Reactor going a coulple of days ago. I did another 20g water change today to get trates down, and the Chaeto should help alot.

Re: Kirblit's 125

Very nice Kirby! I really like the Bicolor blenny. I have a Yellow Watchman goby, but hardly ever see him. He stays in his burrow that the pistol shrimp made and maintains-he's a freeloader! He pops his head out when he is hungry. Yours is stunning!

Re: Kirblit's 125

I've not seen blue macro algae. Are you sure it's not sponge?

Re: Kirblit's 125

It looks kind of like red turf algae in shape, but is similar to the blue algae about halfway down that Non_photosynth has.
