Re: Kirblit's 125

Hint: Get your GFI(s) installed before you set up the tank. I sure wish I would have. Now my only option is a GFI breaker in my breaker box which means when it trips, every thing on that circuit will shut off.

Re: Kirblit's 125

Thanks Woody, I hope that what I planned out will suffice for this. I have a four gang outlet for the tank exclusivley and the left two plugs are the GFI which I have my ReefKeeper II plugged into with all the lights, heaters and high voltage items except the pumps, I have them set up on an American DJ PC 100 that is for all of the pumps. This way if anything trips the pumps will keep everything circulating without any problems, here is a pic.

Thanks for the suggestion, these are the kind of things that I tried to think of before hand from everything I heard on this site, but I'm sure I left some things out, keep them coming I would like to hear from everyone about their ideas for this tank as I have never set up anything this big before.

Re: Kirblit's 125

I got all the salt mixed in the tank today, just waiting for arrival of live rock. I'm going to leave the tank BB until I can get the rock cleaned up, I also think it should be easier to look for hitchikers with the BB, will this be easier? I only ordered half of the rock that I need this week, and the other half for next.

Re: Kirblit's 125

I got all of my live rock in the tank, 45lbs Fiji, 30lbs Lalo, 30 lbs Tonga deep water from the good Drs., and the 16lbs that is in my nano will go in once it's cycled. I will also be getting some from some local lfs that I can pick out. The rock is very porous so I think that around 135lbs should be good. I will try to get pics tomorrow once sandstorm clears.

I ran a 30 amp dedicated circuit for the outlets so I shouldn't have any problems there!
More pics on the way.
Excellent job! you should be very pleased with all of this work, now the question stuff. Youve run a 30 amp circuit for the tank? did you use a secondary fuse box? just wondered how you set it up for plugs and switches. Steve

Re: Kirblit's 125

Yes, I ran a 30amp for the tank only, I have a friend who is an electritian and he did the work for me.

No, he just added the breaker to my existing box and we ran the wire and made a 4 gang for the tank. The 4 gang has GFI on the left two and the right two are just normal outlets. I have the RKII on the GFI with all the lights, heaters, fans ect, and the outher outlets I have plugged into the American DJ with all the pumps so that if the GFI ever trips it will just turn off the lights and the tank will keep circulating.

I don't know what you mean by this "just wondered how you set it up for plugs and switches?" Are you refering to the picture of the American DJ or somthing else?

Re: Kirblit's 125

no, youve answered my question, I just wondered how you split it off, I ran my supply to a subpanel and used separate breakers, I was concerned a dead short would trip the main and all of it would go down?

Re: Kirblit's 125

Oh now I understand, hey thanks for looking out. This is why I love this site, you guys have either had it happen, seen it happen, or have thought around it.
I have learned a lot from reading up on this site everyday for the last year, I'm like a sponge for information when it comes to reefing.

Re: Kirblit's 125

The Tonga LR that I got today from DR. FS is awsome. Very good looking rock and has several incrusting corals that look like they actually have a chance of making it if they survive the cycle. They had pretty good color when I was scrubbing the rocks tonight. I also found several Acrapora that were on the rocks, but they were really bleached out, it's a shame really. Most of the rocks were covered in Corraline Algae and all kinds of colors, red, pink, green, really bright orange, and some good plating variety as well. I don't know if I'm going to have enough die off on the rocks though, I tried to scrub the dead sponges off the best I could, so I think I might have to take the shrimp approach.
