Re: My Confession

Someone brought them into the vet clinic my wife works at. Apparently, the person who brought them in had been trying to tame the mother for quite some time (with recent successes), and the mother had the kittens in her garden.
Sadly though, as is the fate of many outdoor cats, she was crossing a street at the wrong time.
So here we are, with 5 two-week old kittens trying to figure out the best way to get them to take a bottle. Had some limited successes, but it looks like these are going to be the type to need several small feedings each day. Already have our alarm set for 1am!

Talk about bringing your work home with you!!!

Well, it's not like I had a lot of choice in the matter. They were on my bed when I got home from work. Definitely more of my wife's doing. But I'll be glad to take the compliment

Re: My Confession

A foal and kittens plus a ric split.
Spring is clearly in the air.
Good luck getting the kittens to eat. You are truly a good person for trying to save them even if you didn't start the rescue it is clear you want to save them as well.

Re: My Confession

Hmm ... you make one comment about being tired of having just one tank, and tired of the constrictions of a smaller sized one at that. And you end up commiting a rather large sum of money (that could be used for our HORSE) ... to a rather large tank. It's a good thing we got DSL. Kodiak will be on an online research/shopping frenzy for a week or so... if you don't hear from him you know why. We did get some pics of our current tank, which I am thinking of turning into coral only (I really enjoyed the fish being in QT, MUCH cleaner tank)
My fav coral & our cleaner shrimp (who as of late has been p'o-ing my hubby off by trying to feed from the goni at feeding time)

The ric has already split once, the new frag is trying to take hold of the rock beneath. The MR. has a plan for that.

The original ric from which the split began is already working on another split and well into the process ... we are thrilled!

And who can resist a full tank shot, esp since we have recently changed the aquascaping because someone who shall not be named 'unintentionally redecorated'.
Please excuse the goni ... it wasn't happy about the water change/tank disturbance.
P.S. The catfish are doing great, walking already! And growing like weeds.

Re: My Confession

So pissed right now. I went up to Ocean Wonders (my LFS) to pick up some salt and price some reef-ready tanks, and ask about bulk discounts on LR (usually $8.99/lb cured) since I'd be buying 120 lbs of it for my upcoming tank. Well, loe and behold! The shop is CLOSED!!! Apparently, he is dedicating all of his time to his "Maintenance Clients" and closing his doors to the general consumer!
Figures!! As soon as I decide to go to a bigger tank, the ONLY LFS around closes its doors! Now it's looking like I'm going to be solely an online consumer for this new endeavor. I know there are a lot of great online stores (heck, there's a whole forum on RS to compare experiences about them), but I really liked being able to hand pick every single thing that went into my tank (with only a few exceptions of things I bought from RS members).
Alright, sorry you all had to read me venting about this, but it had to come out. If anyone knows of a good SW reef store within 100 miles of jacksonville, I'm all ears!

Re: My Confession

I adopted my twelve year old siamese mix about the same way. She was about the size of my thumb. After twelve years, most of it moving around the country with me, she's still doing great. I'd take one of your beautiful kittens but Blondie , the cat that owns me, would never forgive me.

Re: My Confession

Well, I got the warning at the main page today. Said I should post something or someone would be "forced to whip me with a strand of caulerpa!"
So, here's my post:
My wife called it right. I've been researching my upcoming upgrade. Looks like everything is going to have to wait until I get back from my next deployment (sometime in the fall), but I've already got my wish list made. 120 long, with a center overflow. euphyllia, rics, monti, and a couple mushrooms. I love carpet anemones, but I don't think I want to give up the space for one, thus I'm settled on a bubble tipped (still trying to decide which variety). As for fish, I'm still working on that. I know which types I would LIKE to have; however, I haven't looked into the compatibilities yet. I'm sure my list will get changed, so I'll post it then. I still have plenty of time to make my final decisions since the first round of purchases will not be until Sept. at the earliest. Probably be around Christmas when I start stocking it (just an interesting coincidence! I swear!)
Really inconvenient timing for my LFS to shut its doors! Oh well. Made my first online-store reef-related purchase today. I'm starting myself off slow: bucket-o-salt, glove/arm sleeves, alk test kit, and some phosphate/silicate absorption media. I'll build myself up to the big stuff. I'm really going to miss being able to hand pick each piece of LR.
That's all for tonight. Hopefully whomever the warning came from will put the caulerpa down now.

Re: My Confession

Almost forgot to mention the catfish. They're in the middle of being weaned, and they really aren't crazy about the mush we're feeding them. Otherwise they are doing great. Very sociable, love being held, and my wife has already found homes for most of them!
