Re: My Confession

Yup, they are both pretty much the same size now. One is a lot darker than the other though. I'm thinking the lighter colored one will turn out as the female.

Re: My Confession

Ha! Good news to report. I went out of town (Left Kodiak to handle the garage sale alone heh) and came back, today was the first time I really went in the tank room and took a look. I could have sworn I saw more tissue on the sun coral but went on with feeding everyone and we spot fed it. Then a few moments later after I got the fish some seaweed I came back and saw...

Yay! thought I'd share with you guys. Looks like it waited for me to get home!

Re: My Confession

Ok ok, I can barely contain my excitement! I'll admit I was worried at first. But here we are at the one week mark and we have a feeding response! Looks like this little frag is going to be a real beauty one day!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

WOW! Great job! You saved the little animals! It is so pretty, and it will only get PRETTIER!

This just goes to show that sun corals are hardier than some people think!

Re: My Confession

It's in the sand bed under a LR shelf. You can see it on page 12 of this chronicle on my FTS. Here's the link. It has moderate flow right there since it is where all my flow streams converge, very low light since it's under a shelf, yet easy place to target feed with a hard air line and syringe. Only problem I'm having so far is keeping the cyano off it. That stuff is a constant battle.

Re: My Confession

Perfect placement! Syphon your cyano to export the nitrates/phosphates. Eliminate the source of N/P is the best option. New lights and increased flow may be in order as well.

Glad you like the placement. I kinda researched in reverse for that piece. I wanted something to fill up that hole in my tank. It was just a big open void with nothing but sand. After a thread here, and some ReefPedia time I came up with the sun coral as being the best suited for that particular spot. It helped that I really liked the color, and that there was an EBAY'er selling frags for $10.
As for Nitrates/phosphates: my Nitrates consistantly test <5ppm and I use PhosZorb regularly for my phosphates. Unfortunantly, even with brand new filters, my RO/DI comes out with about .5ppm phosphates, so they accumulate pretty quick from my top-off water. I've had my best success with ridding my tank of the infamous cyano when I was doing daily 5% water changes. Lately, I just haven't had the time to keep that up. I'm back down to 10% weekly and it's building up on me.

Cyano is your friend! Syphon to export as part of your water changes! It's so much fun!

Yeah, I syphon a ton of that stuff up every time I do a water change. Unfortunantly, I end up taking a little bit of sand each time. I'm at the point now where I could probably get away with putting in another 15 pound bag of LS.

Ooops... Didn't realize the Mrs was still logged in. This is Kodiak's post.
