All I can say about where we were is not much: I don't even have a high enough security clearance for that (missed it by one level).

Pretty sure Flipper wasn't a Russian spy. Though a detailed interrogation was performed.

Listen, i know from experience you can up your security level by improving your debt load -- something about being able to be bribed -- just stop fish shopping.

They also need a good reason to give me a higher clearance. My job just doesn't require anything more than what I have. Why waste the money and the man-hours getting me a clearance I'll never use?
Stop fish shopping? I'd explode!

Re: My Confession

So far, it isn't coming along at all. I haven't done anything with it, and it is still sitting in my garage where I unloaded it from my truck.
I am planning on painting the stand and back pane of glass by the end of this week, but I've got a lot of other projects around the house to do too.
Mostly I am just waiting for my checking account to recover from the horse-show season.

Re: My Confession

No progress on the new tank, but thought I could leave everyone an update on the old one. The halimeda has really taken off and had to be pruned back a few times. Probably due for it again now:

The ricordia are splitting like crazy. 1 makes 2. 2 make 4. 4 make 8... I can see this getting out of hand soon.

Still trying to decide what will start renting out the real estate where the dearly departed goniopora was formerly. Leaning towards a montipora, still haven't decided what variety yet. Anyone have any recomendations?

Re: My Confession

Tank looks very nice. Is your system set up to provide sufficient calcium for SPS?

You should post these in the FTS thread.

Re: My Confession

My calcium tends to hover between 400 and 425 ppm, and I drip kalk at night for my makeup water. I do keep PurpleUp handy just in case my calcium goes low, but haven't used any for at least 4 months now without any problems.
Quick question if anyone has the time: In the FTS above, you can kind or see that on the PVC return lines the coralline algae stops growing at about the same level on either side. It hasn't grown above that line on the back pane of glass either. You could just about draw a line across the tank where it won't grow above. Any ideas why it would just stop growing at a certain height?

Re: My Confession

Has your tank water been lowered to that line? Air exposure will kill coraline algea.

Re: My Confession

Interesting... now that you mention it, my frustrating hair algae doesn't grow after a certain point up, too. And yeah, it is about to where I do water changes.

Re: My Confession

I think that might be about where the level drops to when I do a big water change. I'll pay more attention next time and see if that's it.

Re: My Confession

Turns out ya'll were right. The water level drops right to where the corraline stops growing when I do my big water change. I suppose I'll start taking more out of the sump instead of the display.
In other news, I took advantage of The Coral Broker's weekend special and bought an acropora and a pocillopora. They're both really pretty. I'm just hoping that if I put them high enough in my tank that the PC's I have will be enough.
Anyone have any tips for their care and acclimation? How long should I QT them?
I know they, like many other SPS, require a lot of calcium and trace elements, so I'll be monitoring those closely after they get placed in the tank. My Calcium, Magnesium, and Alk stay really consistent in the DT since I've been using kalkwasser for my makeup, so I hope that won't be an issue.
I'll get some pics up as soon as they arrive, but for now, I have to go do a water change in the QT and test all the parameters it has been sorely neglected in the last few weeks (although I did find a bristle worm in it last night).
