| Reef Lobster | Thanks Montanareefer and tankgirl. ![]() Well, it was kind of a slow day today. I managed to get the front of the stand skinned, and boards routed for the two remaining visible sides (I'm still deciding if I want to rout the boards on the rear of the stand as well). Here's an updated pic, which kinda shows how the stand exterior will look. We settled on 'Natural Peach' as the finish, which is a natural finish with a really slight rose tint to it (which I like better than the yellow-tinted normal 'natural' finish). I'll post more pix as I make more progress.

| Reef Lobster | Wow, thanks everybody for the kudos. ![]() Yep, I did all the routing myself. Started with 1"x6"x8' pine boards, cut them to size, ran a V-bit at about 1-1/4" in from each side, then did a half-round on each board edge. All the moulding for this project is also going to be DIY... my grandfather gave me a router table about a month ago (a little used, but it works) so I'm putting it through it's paces. I also have a scroll-saw that I got for my birthday back in January so I plan on doing some scrollwork on the doors... though I still haven't figured out what designs I'm going to do. I didn't get much done today since I was in school most of the day, but I did manage to get the remaining side boards sanded and will get the other two visible sides skinned tomorrow.

| Reef Lobster | Well, I've inhaled enough sawdust to probably be considered a pulp mill, and this is what I've got so far. I have a couple more putty spots to sand down and a little finish sanding, but for the most part the stand structure is finished. Next comes the doors.

| Midas Blenny | Heh, I know what you mean about the saw dust. Attempted the biggest cat post known to man (well, maybe not) and it being in the evening with no hardware stores opened, ended up using a cut off machine with a metal cutting blade to saw the wood.... We were breathing the stuff in and out like we were smoking cigars. Kind of made us a little giggly afterwards. Probably not a good thing. And whatever you do, like VINA DEL MAR says, stain, paint or natural, as long as it's got chrome strips, it's all good. |

| Reef Lobster | Heheh... now why I hadn't thought about chrome? ![]() The stand is going to be stained a natural finish, called 'Natural Peach'. Instead of being a yellow-hue natural, it's a red-hue natural. I almost chose a pickled whitewash, but figured that would be too 'Country Kitchen'-esque for a reef tank. ![]() That's too funny about the metal blade cutting wood there David... you basically had to 'sand' your way through each cut... I'm amazed that the friction didn't catch the wood on fire. ![]() Johnny: Thanks man. You've got PM
