It will be interesting to see what the solution is. They are not a complex skimmer. Probably end up being a manufacturing defect.

Kim, when do you find time to work on your tank and enjoy it when you're so busy making TV shows? You're on Disney, aren't you? Our daughter loves your show.

Re: Kim’s 120 Possibilities

bit of research, MJ 1200 = 295 gph
Rio 1400 = 375 gph
Rio 1400+ = 420 gph
Check your pump, you may have a + impeller in there, just seems like too mucj pump to me, if you have an mj try that instead??

Ok Sas, I'll take the pics when I get home tonight, its' gonna be late, I'm preparing for my trip to San Fran I've got to cover all my bases in the office for the time off ~

I think I'm aquarium equipment impared. I love to work on anything and everything, older cars, computers, radios, replace household fixtures, sprinklers... I like to tinker.... but when it comes to tank equipment....sheesh !

Re: Kim’s 120 Possibilities

Ok, I finally got home and mixed up 20 gallons of saltwater and added 10 gal. to my auto top off bin. Here are the pics of the skimmer.

This is the intake arm as it shipped to me.
Directions: Simply push the output nozzle of the pump directly into the 3/4" ID flexible hose at the end of the skimmer's intake arm. The Remora is NOT designed to be used with the venturi accessory if you are using the Rio 1400. No other fittings are needed, and do not use the venturi attachment that comes with the pump.

Re: Kim’s 120 Possibilities

And this is the email from Aqua C in response to my comments of not using any of the products that were suggested would cause "soapy skimmate"

Hi Kim,

It does sound like the skimmer's reacting to something - the Rio 1400 shouldn't be too powerful for that skimmer. Sometimes, residues on new filter socks, pads, and even new RO filters can cause that type of reaction. How large is the tank, and how heavily is it stocked? Rio pumps come with a ball valve that can be used to adjust pump flow - you might want to install that for the time being, to prevent the skimmer from producing this excessive foam. A good test is to run the skimmer on a bucket of sterile saltwater, made with plain tap water (no dechlorinators) and the appropriate amount of salt to get it up to the correct salinity. The skimmer should produce plenty of bubbles in the reaction chamber (inside the skimmer, directly below the injector), but without anything to hold those bubbles together, little to no foam.

Thanks again, and let me know how things go!

Re: Kim’s 120 Possibilities

Can you remove the front cover from the pump and take a pic of the impeller?
