Re: Kim’s 120 Possibilities

You guys are great! I've been avoiding checking in here.

Yup, life has been non stop, many trials and tribulations but I have 2 wonderful girls that have kept my mind and body active, not to mention a business to run: but, I must admit, my tank has continued to give me beauty and solace.

I will get some pics up soon and let you in on the success and draw backs of the past year.

I truly do appreciate your thoughts while I was MIA

Re: Kim’s 120 Possibilities

Here are a couple pics from today. The diamond goby has not settled down, and I still have sand dust over everything. I do daily dusting, but wow, this can't be good. I think I'm gonna catch him and take him back. I'll wait just a bit more.

I took a break from RS after several issues with my tank (and life). I had a temp flex that I couldn't get under control after installing my chiller, after that, I had a infestation of pyramid snails that wiped out all my snails and any snail I put in my tank for about 6 months. I had to manually remove and then leave my tank snail free for another 6 months. Thankfully thats over with. I knew a proper cleaning crew was important to the health of my tank, but I never imagined the value of snails until I could not keep any alive!

Everything has been relatively healthy and now is going strong.

Re: Kim’s 120 Possibilities

Nice looking reef Kim Welcome back!!

I too had a pyramid snail infestation once. For months every week I was cleaning every snail by hand with a soft cloth to remove the little buggers. That was some serious snail love! LOL~

Keep an eye on your nitrAtes. As the goby stirs up your sand bed (which is not necessarily a bad thing), it is releasing all of the ditritus that has built up and is also oxygenating and killing the anaerobic bacteria that turn nitrAtes into harmless gas. Make sure your skimmer is cleaned and working well so it can remove the floating funk.
Also a temporary prefilter sponge on the return pump (or somewhere along the water flow) would help polish the water. Just be sure to clean it daily until the amount of dirt settles down.

Hi Doni ~ This got my first reaction. I am running carbon and a filtered HOT Mag for polishing. Cleaning the filter is no joke, I was surprised at the amount of trapped gunk in less than 15 hrs. that I had accumulated. AND....Surprisingly..... my xenia are pouting
