Re: The 90G Build.

Thats some funky rock you have there. I like it. The set up is looking pretty sweet. All you need is a Inline Check Valve to stop the flow on that ice maker hook up. Sas gave you a good link i saw.

Re: The 90G Build.

Nice chronology as well as workmanship and planning. The sand wil bind together and move less as your tank cycles and matures. Running the flow into opposite corners so the flows cross as suggested may work for you. In adition, adding some bridge work in the middle wil help dissapate the flow.

Nice start, your fish will love the high water turnover you have with the Ocean Runner. Great stuff from AquaMedic, eh?

Mr. Palm Beach;

One suggestion as per your pictures is for your return lines in the tank.

It seems that you have them pretty deep in the tank. If the power goes out, those return lines will become siphons until air can break that siphon.

Have you tested this to ensure that your sump will be able to handle the extra capacity?

If your sump can not handle it, you can raise your return tubes higher.

Good Luck And Have Fun!!!;

You can also drill a 1/16" hole in the line just below the water surface which will break the siphon before much water leaves the display tank.

SZHTTM thanks for the heads up, to tell you the truth I totally forgot to test the backflow capacity of the sump In case the power when out. Thanks I really appreciate that. Could of been nightmare waiting to happen!

CRAIG MANOUkKIAN thanks also for the tip Im strongly going to take It Into concideration. I had somone from our local reef club suggest the the same thing. I think Its a really great Idea!

Re: The 90G Build.

Last night was a real close one, not only did I just get done reading the post about the power going out and having a real backflow catastrophe, but last night we had a nasty thunder storm, and with that I counted 3 times In which we lost power for about 10 to 20 seconds but that's all It took. So after that past I jumped right on resolving the siphion Issue.

Cant really see the hole but Its there.

I did A test and sure enough worked like a champ, no close calls.

Finished up tightening up the timer and lighting cords. Also put a battery backup Inline just to play It safe.

Re: The 90G Build.

I'd consider ridding yourself of that particular power strip then.

This thread and photos says enough right here: Reef Central Online Community - Photos of my house fire...aquarium put it out.

They are very notorious for crapping out.

Re: The 90G Build.

OMG thats pretty bad, sorry for the loss. Did you ever get In contact with Coralife to find out If they had produced faulty power strips? I have been useing that one for about a 1 1/2 now, kinda curious on what would of trigger It to catch fire. Now you got me thinking twice or aleast Its going to sit In the back of my head every time Im not home.

OOh no.... thats not mine

I just remembered that guy posted that thread on RC about his experience with that same power center.

As soon as I noticed yours it reminded me right to those awful photos.

Just thought I would give you a heads up on that.
