Re: Andy's 29 Gallon Reef

Craig, do they have stinging cells?
As soon as someone says aggressive I think stinging cells.

I can understand maybe rapid growers.
Still learning here. Accepting all input. (til Thursday, then I shut down)

They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Re: Andy's 29 Gallon Reef

They are aggressive growers and to my knowledge (which is VERY minimal) have no stinging cells. There only defensive is to OUT grow other corals around them.

Andy I would ISOLATE them buddy. Unless you're going for a specific GSP all over look buddy. Trust me they are difficult to get rid of once they get established on that PRIMO rock of yours. I honestly think someone else in the tank is their lookout and tells them when I am coming AT the tank with my TWEEZERS!!!

They look GREAT though!

Man you need to SERIOUSLY look into that new Solaris for your tank. I think other than price there's nothing out there to TOUCH them buddy!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Andy's 29 Gallon Reef

Well, all is well in the midwest, and it's about closing time for me. Did some tests on my parameters and found my alkalinity to be much too low, So i began to use B-ionic (i think that's what it's called) in hopes of stabilizing. my Calc was 425ppm and alk was 5dKH ph was ~8.1 and SG was 1.023. I've added a little bit of salt water to my ATO bucket in order to slowly raise my SG to around 1.025 (any objections here?) and as i said, began using calc/alk buffers. New bulbs should be here on monday, so i'm sadly pretty excited about that as well

Do you have any experience with them allen? You like them that much? Do you think the 24" model will be sufficent for a 29 g reef? Thanks!!

Re: Andy's 29 Gallon Reef

Thanks guys

I'm so close to giving in on the solaris.. but they only make a 30" model in the Galileo model I'm not sure if the 24" model will provide enough coverage, and hanging the light from the ceiling will not be a realistic option for me. Any thoughts? (scott )

Update: Just got off the phone with carla at PFO... she seemed pretty confident that unless i was okay with the sides of my tank being shadowed... that I would likely not be happy with the 24" model

Re: Andy's 29 Gallon Reef

Alright...
UPDATE time!

First off, Cat, no Solaris for now I'll be happy with my PC's for now, but let's just say I have a DIY project in the works... to supplement my PC's

Today, I did a 5 gallon water change, and for whatever reason, whenever I do a waterchange, I feel like I'm hurting the tank rather than helping it for some reason Hopefully I'll feel better again when everything is opened up again tomorrow.

Allen! I did it... glued the GSP's to the back glass, and kept a frag to grow on the bottom! I can't wait until the back glass is covered... It will be amazing!

And Finally I placed an order with redspot321 here on the forums, who I ordered my R. florida from in the past. I'm going to be getting a GREAT collection of zoas and pally's as well as a couple of R. florida! YES! I'll keep you guys updated!

Re: Andy's 29 Gallon Reef

You still awake, Andy? I see you on here, but it's late and I don't hear any movement from your way.

I hope you didn't take all the polyps I wanted to get. Which ones are you getting? I plan on getting mine from him sometime this weekend. My 90 is coming this weekend, isn't that cool? Not setting it up yet, but it will be here. I am excited about that.

So no Solaris, huh? Oh my....guess we will just have to wait and see what youa re going to do.....well am off to vote and then probably go to nighty night.
