Be aware with Selcon that it has a very short shelf life and is best kept in the refrigerator.

Even in the fridge you are looking at maybe 3 months tops.

Re: 90 Gallon Starphire Start-up

Ok, so I am on holidays now...but I was surifng another forum and found a nice Purple Wavy-Hand Xenia frag for sale....first come fist serve. Jsut my luck, I';m on holidays and some nice frags come up that I can actually get to by local transit (I don't drive in Toronto...could barely afford a parking spot!). SO I text my girlfreind who says she would go get it for me - how aweosme is that? Ya I know, shes a keeper!! During rush hour on the subway no less. Anyways, so after telling her the cleaner shrimp wont hurt her through the aquagloves she manged to get it in my tank.

No picutres yet but I am excited to see my new addition when I get home in a week! The same user just posted some more frags that I would love..too bad she works today!

Updated pics ina week when I return.

Cheers

Re: 90 Gallon Starphire Start-up

Well, I'm back from holidays but I haven't managed any pics yet of my new Zenia. I'm heading out to pick up a blue trumpet and neon green monti tomorrow though so I will be sure to get some shots of them all this weekend!

So the fist week away from my tank went well, but I think my sister over fed a few days. I was getting my cyano under control and came back to a nice solid carpet of it! Seems there is some significant green algae growth now too.....I can clean the glass and within an hour or two there is another coats on it. Any specific reason for this? I haven't had a chance to do a water test yet and see if there are any elevated levels.

lastly, looks like I might have to move!!! Arg, what a pain, I am not looking forward to moving my system....it is finally just getting settled! I am sure I will be posting some help questions when the time comes, but I am not looking forward to it.

Pics soon....since I know that is what you all want to see (-;

Cheers,
j

Re: 90 Gallon Starphire Start-up

just a thought what are you using to clean the outside of the glass.

also is ther any cleaning products in the room being used.
i have found that using to much windex in the room which houses the tank can cause ammonia.

a while ago i was called to service a problem algae tank.
turned out the tank was in a beuty sallon. i would wipe the glass an hour later the algae came back but alot thicker..

was a lot of work but got it under control.

J
it sounds like you would be a good candidate for prodibo.

Re: 90 Gallon Starphire Start-up

Well I am using very small amounts of windex to clean the outside of the glass....but not very often at all. THis problem only started when I was away, when the glass wasn't getting cleaned.

How does Prodibo help?

Re: 90 Gallon Starphire Start-up

windex contains ammonia which helps your algae grow.

you can use vinegar and water mixture to clean glass its much safer
